The Secretary-General of the National Economic and Social Development Council, Danucha Pichyanond, announced at Government House that a drainage project along the Chai Nat-Pa Sak-Gulf of Thailand corridor will be presented to the Cabinet for approval. The project carries an estimated budget of 160 billion baht and is expected to take 8 years to complete.
The initiative aims to control water flow from the northern region to prevent flooding in Ayutthaya Province. Officials describe it as a necessary project because water management currently relies on traditional methods without modern infrastructure. Once implemented, the project would provide tools to manage excess water during rainy seasons and prevent flooding.
When asked about implementation timelines, Danucha stated that budget allocations have already been set aside in the 2027 fiscal year budget to begin work immediately upon Cabinet approval. Following approval, the Finance Ministry will handle procurement and explore loan financing options to accelerate the project. He also mentioned that the separate Chao Phraya East Bank project was submitted to Cabinet two weeks earlier and involves drainage canal improvements, requiring the relocation of people encroaching on waterways.
