Thailand's Junior Badminton Team Eyes Medals at Asian Championships

Thailand's junior badminton team departed on September 6, 2026, to compete in the Badminton Asia U17 & U15 Junior Championships in Chengdu, China, flying Thai Lion Air flight SL932. Air Chief Marshal Montol Satchukorn, chairman of the Badminton Association of Thailand under Royal Patronage, came to Don Mueang Airport to inspire the athletes.

Anchali Wuttisakkdi, regional sports administration head at the Sports Authority of Thailand, traveled with the team as manager to monitor results and athlete potential. Most athletes are enrolled in the Sports Science High Performance program run jointly with the Ministry of Tourism and Sports and the National Sports Development Fund, designed to develop athlete capabilities through sports science methodology. A Sports Authority team traveled to assess performance and potential during the championship.

Air Chief Marshal Montol Satchukorn stated: "This youth badminton team comes from Thailand's 2026 National Youth Badminton Championship, with some participating in Thai Domestic Training Camp and Thai Domestic New Challenge programs. Most have competed in international tournaments, though some will compete in this championship for the first time. The Badminton Association of Thailand hopes this group will win medals and make Thai sports fans proud. We invite everyone to support these young athletes, as they will be crucial to Thailand's badminton future."

Ateti Techpattana Simyindee, a boys' singles player under 15 years old, said: "This is my second competition. I've learned from previous mistakes and improved my focus. My goal is to perform better, advance far in the rounds, and bring home a medal for Thai fans."

The Badminton Asia U17 & U15 Junior Championships 2026 runs September 8–13 in Chengdu, China, featuring youth players under 17 and under 15 competing across Asia. Thai participants qualified through the 2026 National Youth Championship (champions and runners-up), domestic rankings, the Thai Domestic Training Camp, regional training centers, and the Thai Domestic New Challenge program, which awarded spots to winners of the July 2026 Jaya Raya Junior International Grand Prix.
