Fire Destroys Teacher's Room at Bangkok School
A fire destroyed a fourth-floor teacher's room at a Bangkok school on September 6, injuring a PE teacher who inhaled smoke while attempting to extinguish the blaze.
At 3:45 p.m. on September 6, officers from Tha Kham Police Station responded to a fire at Suankularb Withayalai Thonburi School on Kanchanaphisek Road in Bangkok's Bang Khun Thian district. Firefighters from Bangkok's Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office arrived to combat a intense blaze in a fourth-floor teacher's room in the four-story Building 1, which contained exam cabinets, teaching supplies, bedding, and clothing. Officials spent approximately 30 minutes extinguishing the fire using water cannons.
One person was injured: Pachon Waiylap, 33, a physical education teacher who inhaled smoke while attempting to fight the fire. He was taken to Bang Khun Thian Elderly Hospital for treatment. The fire damaged approximately 40 square meters of the room.
Witness Adisorn Toddilkwet, 35, a teacher who saw the incident, reported that another staff member discovered flames on the ground floor of the teacher's room. He and other teachers attempted to use fire extinguishers, but the fire spread rapidly and they evacuated. The fuel source is suspected to have been paper, wood, and student work materials stored in the room.
Police are currently reviewing closed-circuit television footage and questioning witnesses to determine the exact cause of the fire. Officials plan to conduct further investigation at the scene with forensic specialists.
