Two Militants Killed in Takeaw Mountain Gunfight

The Internal Security Operations Command Region 4 announced an update on the Takeaw mountain gunfight on September 11, 2026. A combined task force of special operations units, military, police, and other agencies engaged with armed militants on September 9, 2026, at around 12:30 p.m. in the forested Takeaw mountain area near the borders of Bong-O subdistrict in Rangae district and Chuab subdistrict in Chao Airong district, Narathiwat province. Two militants were killed in the clash.

Authorities have identified the deceased as:

1. U, age 46, had six arrest warrants related to incidents including: a June 1, 2016 gunfight at Khao Ban Airking (Ban Yoi Aiso) village in Changpheuk subdistrict, Chanae district, Narathiwat, which resulted in four militant deaths; a March 13, 2016 assault on Chao Airong Hospital; a February 19, 2018 bombing and shooting at Chao Airong Police Station; a February 23, 2020 gunfight at Khao Ban Airstia in Bukit subdistrict, Chao Airong district; a February 9, 2014 clash at Khao Ban Buojaeng in Bong-O subdistrict, Rangae district; and a July 29, 2021 warrant for assembling armed groups, procuring weapons, and preparing for acts of insurgency and illegal possession of ammunition.

2. Seng, age 37, had three arrest warrants: an October 25, 2018 warrant for shooting and arson at two homes in Changpheuk subdistrict, Chanae district, on September 8, 2018; a September 16, 2022 warrant for shooting and bombing Ranger Company 4513 in Bong-O subdistrict, Rangae district, on June 8, 2022; and a May 14, 2024 warrant for a bombing at a militant base on Takeaw mountain in Bong-O subdistrict, Rangae district, on March 26, 2024.

Authorities recovered two rifles—one M16 and one AK-104—along with two hand grenades and survival equipment from the scene. Investigators will conduct further analysis and pursue connections to related incidents.
