On September 18, 2025, the Dental Council held a press conference with the Department of Health Service Support and the Consumer Protection Police Division to announce the arrest of an unlicensed dentist operating illegally from a residential property in Ayutthaya province, offering dentures and retainers with delivery service.
The investigation began after the Dental Council reported online advertising for teeth straightening and colored retainers targeting teenagers in Ayutthaya, combined with public tips about unauthorized dental practice. Police confirmed illegal activity was occurring and proceeded with the arrest.
The Dental Council urged the public to verify service providers before undergoing dental treatment. They recommended checking that services are provided only by licensed dentists whose names can be verified on the Dental Council website, and that clinics display proper licensing signs with an 11-digit business permit number.
The Dental Council warned of serious health risks from unlicensed dentists, including poor sterilization practices, reused contaminated instruments risking bacterial infection and bloodborne diseases like hepatitis B, C, and HIV, use of unapproved low-quality materials containing harmful chemicals and carcinogens, and potential permanent damage to tooth structure and bone from improper technique causing severe gum inflammation, tooth mobility, and irreversible tooth loss.
Official urged the public not to prioritize cheap prices or temporary fashion trends, as correcting damage from unlicensed dentists costs many times more than standard dental care and may be irreparable. Anyone encountering unlicensed dentists or illegal clinics should report them to the Dental Council or the Consumer Protection Police Division for legal action.
