Wat Pa Sri Kunaram in Ban Jit subdistrict, Gu Kaew district, Udon Thani province is preparing to issue the "Luang Por Prajak-Luang Por Bunsim Series 1" commemorative medal as a keepsake for the Kathina Samakkhi ceremony on November 1, 2026, held at the temple.
The medal creation stems from the wishes of disciples of Phra Ajarn Prajak Pooripanyo and devotees of Luang Por Bunsim Chotipanyo, who sought to craft an auspicious object commemorating the Kathina Samakkhi merit-making occasion. The medal will serve as a blessing and reminder of their revered teachers.
Sponsors of each Kathina group contribute 1,000 baht and receive the copper "Luang Por Prajak-Luang Por Bunsim Series 1" medal as a keepsake.
The oval medal measures approximately 2.5 by 3.5 centimeters. The obverse features a half-figure of Luang Por Prajak, with an inscription along the upper edge reading "Kathina Samakkhi Ceremony, November 1, 2026, Wat Pa Sri Kunaram, Ban Jit subdistrict, Gu Kaew district, Udon Thani province, Series 1." The surrounding field is decorated with bird motifs.
The reverse shows an inscription along the upper edge detailing the ceremony's date, time, and location, with a sacred syllable yantra in the center accompanied by the phrase "Chayya Chayya Namo Buddhaya." Below are Luang Por Bunsim's signature and the inscription "Victory, Fortune, Great Prosperity." The lower edge features a half-figure of Luang Por Bunsim Chotipanyo with his name, surrounded by bird motifs.
Following their creation, the medals will be housed in the ubosot of Wat Pa Sri Kunaram, where resident monks will chant blessings during morning and evening services over three months.
The Kathina Samakkhi ceremony at Wat Pa Sri Kunaram on November 1, 2026, is expected to draw large numbers of Buddhists and devotees, as it is a significant merit-making event following the end of the Buddhist Lent.
In addition to the commemorative medal, the temple is also issuing blessed cloth amulets for merit contributors according to their faith, bearing the inscription "Victory, Fortune, Great Prosperity" as another keepsake from the merit-making event.
Luang Por Bunsim Chotipanyo, before entering monastic life, served in the military and held the position of Commander of the Second Area Command under the name General Bunsim Phadkhlang, known as "Commander Goong." He played a significant role in overseeing Thai-Cambodian border areas and performing security and border defense operations.
