Woman Dies After Jumping From Bus on Mountain Road
A 55-year-old woman died after jumping from a skidding minibus on a mountain road in Mae Hong Son province and being struck by the vehicle as it backed up.
A 55-year-old woman, a passenger on a yellow minibus operating the Mae Sairiang-Hod route, died after panicking when the vehicle skidded on a mountain road and jumping out, only to be struck by the bus backing up.
On September 3, 2569, Deputy Lieutenant Prakay Boonthiem from Mae Sairiang Police Station revealed that 67-year-old Thongdee, driver of the yellow minibus on the Mae Sairiang-Hod route with Mae Hong Son registration, came forward to give a statement. He reported that at approximately 10:10 a.m., he departed Mae Sairiang District in Mae Hong Son province heading toward Hod District in Chiang Rai province with seven passengers aboard.
At the incident site on Road 108, Village 4, Mae Hawq Subdistrict, Mae Sairiang District, Mae Hong Son province—about 2 kilometers before the Mae Hawq police checkpoint—there was a landslide on an uphill section where traffic could only proceed in one lane. The driver stopped and had an officer signal whether oncoming vehicles were approaching.
When the officer signaled to proceed, the driver moved forward. At that moment, the bus skidded, causing passenger Janchira, 55, to panic and jump from the vehicle. She sustained injuries and was taken to Mae Sairiang Hospital. Due to the severity of her condition, she was transferred to Nakorn Ping Hospital in Chiang Mai province, where she later died. The minibus driver filed an incident report as evidence for further investigation.
