Woman Flees After Plowing Car Into Shop, Hits Two Motorcyclists
A 35-year-old woman drove her Honda Accord into a grocery shop in Chonburi, hit two motorcyclists while fleeing 3 kilometers away, and was found with an open beer bottle before refusing to cooperate with police.
A 35-year-old woman driving a Honda Accord rammed a sidecar motorcycle and destroyed a small grocery shop before fleeing roughly 3 kilometers and striking two more residents, with an open beer bottle found in the vehicle. Police administered a breath test on September 20, 2569. Deputy Superintendent Kittipoj Iamprairop of Nong Prue Police Station disclosed that at 10:10 p.m. on September 19, officers responded to a report of a sedan crashing into a grocery shop and damaging property before fleeing and striking local residents in an alley near Boon Samphun Temple in Nong Prue Subdistrict, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi Province.
At the scene in front of the shop, a sidecar motorcycle was found damaged, with merchandise scattered across the ground. The impact also damaged an adjacent cannabis shop, with goods inside destroyed. The sedan involved was a Bangkok-registered Honda Accord with severe front-end damage. After striking the property, the driver did not check on victims or render assistance, but accelerated away from the scene. Residents and shop owners who witnessed the incident pursued the car closely before it struck another motorcycle being ridden on the road, severely injuring the rider. Rescue workers provided first aid before rushing the victim to hospital.
Residents continued pursuing the sedan for over 3 kilometers until it reached Tung Klom-Taan Man Road 14, where they were able to stop the driver and alert police. Officers found an open beer bottle inside the vehicle. The driver, identified as Ms. Nitya (surname withheld), 35, appeared intoxicated and refused to provide statements to police. She was taken for an alcohol breath test at Nong Prue Police Station while the vehicle's front bumper was found severely damaged.
Witnesses reported seeing a white sedan traveling at high speed with a weaving motion before it lost control, struck the parked sidecar motorcycle in front of the shop, sending it airborne into the grocery store and causing damage. The driver reversed, accelerated, and fled immediately. Mr. Sangkom (surname withheld), 57, the shop owner, stated he and his wife were inside when the white sedan suddenly crashed into the parked sidecar in front, launching it into the shop with significant damage. The driver then reversed and fled rapidly.
Police took the driver in for an alcohol breath test to proceed with legal charges.
