Yala Police Establish Mobile Checkpoints After Militant Attack
Yala police deployed mobile checkpoints along key roads following a militant attack in nearby Narathiwat that killed five soldiers and injured five civilians on July 23.
Yala Police have established mobile POP-UP checkpoints and coordinated security forces to implement proactive measures preventing violent insurgent groups from operating in the area. On July 23, militants using trucks and motorcycles attacked the Bukesami checkpoint in Narathiwat's Ranae district, throwing pipe bombs and opening fire, resulting in five ranger soldier deaths and five civilian injuries.
Colonel Thaworn Phonklai, Kotabare Police Commander, along with his deputy and rapid response units, deployed mobile checkpoint operations along the Kotabare-Yala road in Raman district, Yala province. Officers conducted thorough checks of individuals, vehicles, and suspicious items to restrict movement of violent insurgents and prevent further incidents. Authorities emphasized careful enforcement of security protocols while facilitating public travel and maintaining community understanding.
The checkpoint deployment is part of Kotabare Police's broader strategy to control the area, monitor key routes, and pressure hostile elements. The station continues intensive operations with coordinated inter-agency efforts, increased patrols, and sustained security measures to ensure public safety and confidence in the region.
