104 Health Volunteers Hospitalized After Supplement Trial
104 health volunteers in Nan province were hospitalized after consuming a dietary supplement during a training course, experiencing symptoms including chest tightness, facial flushing, and loss of consciousness within minutes of ingestion.
One hundred four community health volunteers in Nan province were hospitalized after experiencing sudden acute illness following consumption of a dietary supplement product during a standard volunteer health worker training course held September 25–27 at Sri Sa Ket Subdistrict Municipality office in Nan Oai District.
According to reports, a trainer's associate introduced and distributed the supplement for trial consumption. Within approximately 15 minutes, some trainees developed abnormal symptoms including chest tightness, facial and body flushing, rashes, elevated blood pressure, and in some cases loss of consciousness. They were urgently transported to Nan Oai Hospital for treatment.
Of 163 total trainees, 129 consumed the product. Among these, 104 showed abnormal symptoms while 25 had no reaction. Twenty-one required hospital treatment and seven were admitted for overnight observation. Health authorities have collected product samples for laboratory analysis to identify any contaminants or pharmacologically active substances. Officials emphasized that people should avoid consuming products with unclear information and seek immediate medical attention if unusual symptoms develop after consumption. Formal investigation and laboratory results are pending before any definitive link to the product can be confirmed.
