Cabinet Launches 14-Point Flood Response Plan
The Thai Cabinet approved 14 emergency measures to combat widespread flooding affecting 50 Bangkok districts and 25 provinces, coordinating water monitoring, evacuation support, and dam management across agencies.
Government spokesman Akkaraphol Peerpiset announced the emergency Cabinet meeting results on September 27, describing the current period as difficult for Thai citizens as 50 Bangkok districts declared disaster status and 25 provinces nationwide face heavy rainfall and flooding risks. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul directed 14 measures including: coordination across all agencies for continuous relief efforts; the National Water Resources Office and Agriculture Ministry to lead water monitoring via the Royal Irrigation Department; the Interior Ministry's Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation and Bangkok to manage alerts and evacuation support; the Meteorology Department to provide accessible weather information; provincial governors in the eastern region to monitor situations and assist residents promptly; surveys of equipment and pumps to ensure full operational capacity; police coordination on traffic management; monitoring of flash floods, landslides, and flash floods in various provinces; and dam water release management with priority given to downstream residents. A central information center (JICC) will issue daily updates at 10 a.m., and officials assured that Bangkok's situation will not repeat the severe 2011 flooding if rainfall does not increase further.
