18-Wheel Truck Overturns on Curve, Kills One
A woman died and another person was trapped when an 18-wheel truck overturned on a curve near Chiang Muang in Phayao province on September 22, also knocking out power to nearby communities.
At 8 p.m. on 22 September, rescue personnel responded to a report of an 18-wheel truck with Uttradit registration that lost control on a curve, flipped upside down, and slid off the road on the Chiang Muang-Nan highway approximately 10 kilometres from Chiang Muang district in Phayao province. Rescue teams and emergency responders found two occupants inside the vehicle: one woman was pronounced dead, and another person remained trapped. Officials used cutting equipment to pry open the wreckage and extract the second victim urgently. The impact ruptured 4-5 electricity poles in the Ang Huay Chon area, causing a widespread power failure affecting the Ban Pong and Ban Paet zones. Police temporarily closed the road for safety and to allow rescue operations, and began moving the overturned truck from the site. Electricity Authority staff inspected the damaged poles and distribution system and worked to restore power to the affected areas as quickly as possible. A six-wheel truck parked nearby is being investigated for possible involvement in the incident. The cause of the truck losing control remains under investigation, and authorities urge drivers on the Chiang Muang-Nan route to exercise caution and avoid the area while emergency crews clear the scene and repair the electrical infrastructure.
