Gastech 2026 Delivers $16 Billion Energy Deals for Thailand
Thailand secured over $16 billion in energy deals at Gastech 2026 in Bangkok, with bilateral agreements signed with 17 countries and key partnerships forged on liquefied natural gas, green electricity, and small modular reactor technology.
Energy Minister Eknath Romprapal announced that Gastech 2026, held September 14–17, 2026 at Bangkok's BITEC convention center, exceeded its targets with over 50,000 participants from around the world and business agreements totaling more than $16 billion. The event generated economic circulation and activity stimulus valued at approximately 15 billion baht, including employment and construction.
The conference opened doors for Thailand to advance energy security internationally, with bilateral discussions held with 17 countries including Singapore, Russia, the United States, Brunei, Oman, and Libya, plus senior executives from leading energy organizations and companies. A key focus was addressing the energy crisis arising from tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, with Russia, the US, Brunei, and Libya signaling readiness to support new energy sources for Thailand's security. Thailand also advanced cooperation within ASEAN with Singapore and Brunei on subsea transmission lines and the ASEAN Power Grid.
Thailand promoted its role as a liquefied natural gas hub and highlighted readiness to provide green electricity services to attract investment in emerging industries, particularly data centers and artificial intelligence, alongside carbon-reduction technologies including small modular reactors, hydrogen, and carbon capture and storage.
Two significant memorandums of understanding were signed during the event. The first was between Thailand's Electricity Generating Authority (EGAT) and the US Trade and Development Agency, which will fund a feasibility study for small modular reactor technology. The second was an energy cooperation MoU between Thailand and Oman, signed by Eknath and Oman's Minister of Energy and Minerals Salim bin Nasser bin Said al-Aufi, promoting trade, investment, energy project development, knowledge exchange, and establishing an Oman-Thailand Energy Policy Dialogue mechanism to advance joint investment opportunities across public and private sectors and third countries.
Eknath stated that hosting Gastech 2026 reflects global confidence in Thailand's energy potential, demonstrated through business matchmaking results, domestic economic circulation, and bilateral discussions yielding concrete cooperation, particularly US funding for SMR technology research and expanded knowledge networks with Oman, which will be crucial for advancing Thailand's energy transition, strengthening security, and enhancing competitive capability.
