66-Year-Old Dies After Car Plunges Into Roadside Ditch
A 66-year-old Bangkok man died after his Honda Civic veered off Friendship Road near Khao Yai and plunged into a deep ditch in Pak Chong; police suspect he fell asleep and was not wearing a seatbelt.
On September 15, 2026, Deputy Investigation Officer Kratchit Pinitj of Pak Chong Police Station responded to a report of a car that had plunged into a roadside ditch on Friendship Road before the Khao Yai overpass (kilometer 57-58) heading toward Nakhon Ratchasima in Pak Chong subdistrict, Pak Chong district. He inspected the scene along with rescue units from Sawaangwitchadham Pak Chong and an ambulance from Pak Chong Nana Hospital. At the scene, officers found a Bangkok-registered Honda Civic that had fallen into a ditch more than 2 meters deep with severe damage and the front door hanging open. The driver, a 66-year-old man named Papawin (surname withheld), was found ejected from the vehicle. According to Kratchit's investigation, witnesses reported that the vehicle was heading toward Nakhon Ratchasima in the morning when, just past a shopping mall, it suddenly veered off the road and plunged into the ditch. Police believe the driver may have fallen asleep and was not wearing a seatbelt, which caused him to be ejected from the vehicle. The car was recovered from the scene and the body was taken to Pak Chong Nana Hospital for examination.
