Authorities Seize 58 Kilograms of Pangolin Scales at Mukdahan Station
Authorities in Mukdahan province seized 58 kilograms of pangolin scales hidden in two boxes left at the local transport station after receiving a tip from the public. The scales, confirmed to be from a protected species, were uncovered by a joint team of military rangers, wildlife officials, police, and immigration officers. Investigators are now working to trace the shipment’s origin and identify those responsible.
Officials reported finding 58 kilograms of pangolin scales concealed in two cardboard boxes abandoned on the platform of Mukdahan’s passenger transport station. The discovery came after a public tip, prompting a joint inspection by military rangers from the 2103 Special Forces Company, wildlife and animal quarantine officers from Mukdahan, the Provincial Police Bureau’s Environmental Crime Division, Mukdahan City Police, immigration officials, and Border Patrol Company 234. Upon opening the boxes, investigators found the scales packed inside sacks and confirmed they were from a protected pangolin species. No one came forward to claim the items, so authorities seized the scales and forwarded them to the Mukdahan City Police investigators for further investigation to identify the owners and trace the shipment’s origin.
