Bangkok Upgrades Friendship Park and Highway Garden

Bangkok Deputy Governor Porprom Vikitsetsadej inspected Friendship Recreational Park on Onnuch 46 and the garden beneath the Srinakarin-Rama 9 elevated intersection in Suan Luang District on September 11 to oversee public park development. The initiative focuses on upgrading basic infrastructure, drainage systems, safety measures, and land use to better serve community residents.

Accompanied by Bangkok Metropolitan Council member Piyawan Jaraka, Suan Luang District Director Bancha Subekraban, and other officials and community partners, Deputy Governor Porprom stated that Friendship Recreational Park occupies 4 rai, 2 ngan, and 27 square wah. Once an abandoned area under Suan Luang District's responsibility, it has been developed into a 15-minute park and opened to the public since 2025 through cooperation with local networks including the Friendship Village Community Association and the Jern Khun Community.

Improvements include repairing walkways, upgrading fencing, installing lighting and surveillance cameras for enhanced safety, and adjusting facilities for recreation and exercise. Drainage will be improved through retention ponds and expanded pipes to handle monsoon runoff. Staff will be assigned to maintain cleanliness and enforce nighttime security measures and site usage guidelines.

The garden beneath the Srinakarin-Rama 9 intersection is undergoing improvements to increase utility, resolve operational issues, and control site access. Green areas are being expanded with additional tree planting to create a better environment for public relaxation.

Bangkok is also developing connecting routes for convenient and safe access to the parks, incorporating community input into development plans and coordinating with the Expressway Authority of Thailand for public benefit. The city will continue monitoring and coordinating with relevant agencies to ensure these public parks serve as safe, convenient spaces for community recreation and activities.
