Motorcyclist Dies After Crashing on Bangkok Canal Bridge

A 32-year-old man died after his Kawasaki Z800 motorcycle crashed at a canal bridge in Bangkok's Bang Khen district early Saturday morning, with a witness reporting that he heard the motorcycle revving loudly shortly before the crash.

Police were alerted at 01:30 to a crash on the bridge over Khlong Lum Phai near the intersection of Phalasinthu Road in Anusawari subdistrict.

Deputy investigation inspector Naphon Thongrat from Bang Khen Police Station attended the scene with emergency medical personnel from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's Erawan Center and Ruam Katanyu Foundation volunteers.

A green-and-black Kawasaki Z800 with a Bangkok licence plate was found overturned at the foot of the bridge, its fuel tank badly dented.

The rider, identified as Nattawut, 32, was found unconscious near the bridge wearing a full-face helmet, black short-sleeved T-shirt and jeans. Rescuers performed CPR for more than 30 minutes, but he could not be revived and was pronounced dead. Police determined he suffered a broken neck, severely fractured right arm and serious facial injuries.

A witness told police he heard the loud sound of a motorcycle accelerating from Prasert-Manukitch Road before hearing a crash on the bridge. When the witness investigated, the motorcycle was overturned but the rider was not visible. After searching for more than 10 minutes, the witness found the rider unconscious near the bridge's foot and called emergency services.

Police suspect the motorcycle was travelling at high speed and became airborne while crossing the bridge before losing control. The bike reportedly overturned and slid into a concrete barrier with force, ejecting the rider. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage as part of the investigation.

The body was sent to Bhumibol Adulyadej Hospital for post-mortem examination before being released to the family for religious rites.
