Disney Run Thailand 2026 Slammed for Poor Event Management

Disney Run Thailand 2026 faced backlash from participants who complained the July 19 Bangkok event lacked Disney atmosphere, with critics joking they got the "Run" but zero "Disney" due to poor management and long queues.

Disney Run Thailand 2026 Slammed for Poor Event Management
21 Jul Khaosod

Disney Run Thailand 2026 has drawn widespread online criticism after participants complained about organizational issues, with social media users joking: "You get the 'Run', but zero 'Disney'."

The running event was held around Rama VIII Bridge in Bangkok on the morning of July 19, attracting a large number of participants. The competition featured two race categories: a 5-kilometre run and a 10-kilometre run.

Following the event, several participants and social media users shared their experiences, with many criticising the event management and saying the atmosphere did not deliver the "Disney" experience they had expected. The Consumers Facebook page raised the issue in a post, highlighting complaints that most participants felt they only received the "Run" part without any "Disney" element, with some noting that participant costumes looked more impressive than the event's overall presentation.

The post sparked widespread discussion online. Some commenters said they felt fortunate to have been unable to secure tickets, while others described the event as a "bland, unseasoned version of Disney." One comment stated: "At first, I felt disappointed and frustrated that I could not get a ticket in time. But after seeing how the event was organised this morning, I feel lucky that I missed out."

Some participants praised the quality of the medals, shirts, and capes provided, but criticised the management system, including poor transport arrangements, long waiting times to exit the parking area, and lengthy queues at food stations that caused many attendees to give up waiting. The event's mascots also became a point of contention, with some saying the designs and overall atmosphere did not meet expectations for a globally recognized brand. Others made sarcastic comparisons to the "Dan Neramit era"—referring to a defunct Bangkok amusement park—while questioning whether licensing limitations may have affected the event's presentation.

Despite the criticism, Disney Run Thailand 2026 still attracted strong interest from Disney fans and runners. The backlash highlighted participants' expectations for an event that combines smooth operations with a fully immersive Disney experience, rather than simply functioning as an ordinary running event.

Government to Overhaul Welfare Card Eligibility Criteria

Thailand's government will overhaul welfare card eligibility criteria after acknowledging that flawed screening processes exclude struggling people who genuinely need help, particularly those with outdated vehicle registrations or pursuing

Government to Overhaul Welfare Card Eligibility Criteria
21 Jul Khaosod

The government announced cabinet meeting results addressing public demands to review welfare card eligibility criteria, a major current issue. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul noted that public feedback shows many struggling people fail the screening despite genuine need for help—such as those registered as owners of defunct vehicles still in records, or students advancing their education whose true circumstances don't match current criteria. The prime minister acknowledged gaps in welfare card screening rules. He stressed that citizens should not have to approach the state or wait for appeals; government agencies must instead proactively reach out to communities, conduct surveys, listen, and solve problems so deserving people don't fall through the system. He assigned the Interior Ministry to coordinate with provincial governors and local agencies to urgently survey those who failed screening but merit assistance, and submit data to the Finance Ministry for quick review. The Transport Ministry must accelerate updating vehicle registration databases, reduce citizen burdens in scrapping defunct registrations, and fast-track legal and regulatory amendments. The Finance Ministry must urgently review screening criteria to align with fact and current hardship, identify rules that exclude the deserving, and propose improvements to cabinet. The prime minister's recognition of public concerns and directive for proactive government action on welfare card screening is appropriate, with focus on updating data to reflect true circumstances, especially vehicle and motorcycle ownership rules—currently a severe problem. Without fixes, millions of citizens risk being left out. Additional affected groups include out-of-school students under the Education Ministry and vulnerable populations under the Social Development and Human Security Ministry, numbering hundreds of thousands. The hope is for more proactive government work to close loopholes and help people comprehensively and accurately.

21 Jul Khaosod

Thai rock legend Sek Loso, or Seksak Sukphimai, held a major press conference with his bandmates announcing the 30th anniversary concert "30 Years of LOSO: Worth the Wait" at Lido Hall 2 in Siam Square. The band will perform all their hit songs, and Sek discussed his role as an idol to younger musicians, particularly offering support to rising 16-year-old rock guitarist and singer Nene, who is currently gaining international recognition for Thailand.

When asked how LOSO has inspired the new generation, Sek said: "I believe many young people listen to LOSO's music a lot. I'm grateful and want to give encouragement to everyone who follows us. I hope our music brings happiness and knowledge to all listeners."

Regarding Nene, whom he called a fan of LOSO, Sek expressed admiration: "I have great respect for her. At just 16 years old, to play guitar and sing at her level is truly excellent. I heard that Sek is her idol too. I'm thankful for that mutual admiration, and I want to give her encouragement and cheer her on to the finals. All Thai people should support Nene."

When asked how to advise the many young people who consider him an idol, Sek emphasized dedication: "I want young people to practice extensively. When I played guitar, I practiced 6 to 8 hours daily, then performed at night for another 3 to 4 hours—spending 10 hours a day with the guitar. For anyone interested in music, practice hard. Music can keep you away from drug addiction. I am completely clean now and have been drug-free for eight years. I ask Thai people to trust us, and I want everyone to know that Sek, LOSO, and the entire band are now completely pure. Thank you for your support."

Thailand Revises Welfare Card Rules to Help Fraud Victims
21 Jul Khaosod

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanpraphas announced on July 21 that the government is rushing to hold a meeting this week to review criteria and conditions for a revised state welfare card program, with cabinet approval targeted for July 27. The initiative aims to help genuinely disadvantaged citizens, as public complaints have revealed that many unqualified applicants were receiving benefits. The Finance Ministry has identified 2.3 million additional eligible recipients who meet all new criteria.

During the review process, authorities discovered serious fraud involving approximately 20,000 to 30,000 cases where citizens' personal data was misused to register them as company directors without their knowledge, and fraudsters used their names to open stock trading accounts. Ekniti emphasized that genuine victims of this fraud will receive full assistance and benefit restoration, while perpetrators will face legal action. He stressed that companies using villagers' names as employees or board members of shell companies operated by business groups will be held accountable.

Ekniti outlined the welfare card program's principles, developed in consultation with the Interior Ministry, noting that the government will deploy officials to help affected communities. He reassured citizens that truly disadvantaged people have nothing to worry about and will receive full government support. The welfare card complements other assistance programs including elderly pensions of 600-1,000 baht monthly and disability benefits, all of which remain unchanged. The revised welfare card program will specifically target those with no existing welfare benefits.

Officers found the body of Wachree Yuenyung, 24, from Ban Lao Subdistrict, Kham Cha-i District, Mukdahan Province, on the roadway. The truck driver stated he was hauling construction materials from Kham Cha-i when his brakes failed at the intersection, causing him to collide with the motorcycle and then slide into the parked pickup. A breath test showed the driver's alcohol level at 191 milligrams per cent, far exceeding legal limits. Police charged him with driving under the influence and reckless driving causing death, with the case transferred to Mueang Mukdahan Police Station for further prosecution.

Thai Credit Posts 18% Profit Growth in First Half
21 Jul Khaosod

Thai Credit Bank's Chief Executive Officer Roy Augustinus Kunara announced first-half 2025 results showing net profit of 2,153.9 million baht, a 17.8% increase compared to the same period last year, while second-quarter profit reached 989.3 million baht, up 6.9%. The bank's earnings per share totaled 1.74 baht for the half-year and 0.80 baht for Q2 2025, demonstrating strong and stable business fundamentals despite challenging economic conditions.

Key performance drivers included a 6.8% rise in interest income from sustained credit expansion, with total outstanding loans reaching 194,080.5 million baht at the end of Q2 2025—up 13.1% year-on-year. Micro SME credit grew particularly strongly at 13.9% following the launch of the new "SME Help Boost" credit product and the Micro SME Business Center, a comprehensive business advisory hub. Home-secured lending expanded 9.4% and personal lending surged 44.9%, while the bank also received compensation income from government flood-relief measures.

Interest expenses increased 9.7%, primarily from debt instruments and subordinated bonds issued as part of a strategic cost management plan aligned with current market conditions. Thai Credit Bank continues disciplined financial management with rigorous credit risk controls paired with proactive measures supporting business liquidity under government stimulus programs like the SMEs Credit Boost initiative, which helps entrepreneurs access funding efficiently at fair rates. The bank's net interest margin improved to 7.1% for the first half of 2025.

Asset quality remained well-managed, with the gross non-performing loan ratio rising slightly to 4.3% but staying within the bank's target range, while NPL coverage ratio held steady at a strong 148.2%, up from year-ago levels and positioned to absorb future economic uncertainty. The bank maintains confidence in achieving double-digit credit growth in 2025 while controlling its NPL ratio.

Anupthong Dismisses Claims Linking Him to Senate Bribery Case
21 Jul Khaosod

Prime Minister Anupthong Chaiyaveerakul laughed off allegations after iLaw released the names of nine Pheu Thai politicians linked to a Senate bribery scandal, saying the information was unreliable and insisting he had no involvement.

At 3:05 p.m. on July 21, 2569, speaking as Pheu Thai party leader at party headquarters, Anupthong responded to iLaw's submission of an opposition petition that named nine party members in connection with the Senate graft case, saying he had not yet seen the news.

When asked whether the list included Pheu Thai politicians, Anupthong questioned the claim, stating that all matters should follow proper investigative procedures to establish the facts. When pressed about whether his name appeared first on the list, Anupthong responded by questioning the source, arguing that such information lacked credibility. He then laughed and declared that he had nothing whatsoever to do with the case.

Kasikornbank Profit Climbs 6% Despite Economic Slowdown

Kasikornbank Profit Climbs 6% Despite Economic Slowdown
21 Jul Khaosod

Kasikornbank reported first-half 2025 profit of 27.915 billion baht, up 6.22 percent, despite a slowdown in second-quarter economic activity. The bank expects a recovery in the second half driven by government stimulus measures, but faces ongoing risks from Middle Eastern conflict, energy prices, U.S. tariffs, and El Niño effects.

Kattiya Intravijai, president and chief executive of Kasikornbank, said Thai economic growth slowed in the second quarter amid mounting external pressures, particularly Middle East tensions, which have kept energy costs elevated and increased inflation and living-cost pressures domestically. Government stimulus measures have only partially flowed into the real economy, while tourism faces recovery constraints with foreign arrivals declining year-on-year. Electronics and AI-related exports performed strongly, but other export categories are weakening as trading partners' economies slow.

In the second half of 2025, Thai economic growth is expected to improve compared to the second quarter, with domestic spending supported by additional government economic stimulus measures. However, these efforts may prove insufficient to reverse the full-year slowdown, as the economy faces ongoing uncertainty from Middle East developments, which could keep global energy prices volatile and elevated. U.S. tariff policies, El Niño developments, and constraints on government spending disbursement and effectiveness remain significant challenges for Thai economic recovery in the remainder of the year.

Given the high-uncertainty economic environment, the bank is closely monitoring and assessing the situation to manage risks, adjust strategy, and implement operations flexibly while supporting customers through the uncertain period and backing government policy fully.

In the second quarter of 2025 compared to the first quarter, the bank and subsidiaries posted net profit attributable to the bank of 13.247 billion baht, down 9.68 percent. Quarter-on-quarter net profit attributable to the bank declined 0.98 percent when adjusted for a one-time investment valuation gain of 1.455 billion baht in the prior quarter. Net interest income totaled 31.432 billion baht, down 1.64 percent, while non-interest income rose 4.14 percent to 18.291 billion baht. Operating expenses came to 20.750 billion baht, up 7.63 percent, primarily from increased marketing costs tied to revenue growth and technology spending to enhance customer service capabilities. Year-on-year, however, operating expenses fell 0.26 percent, reflecting the bank's ongoing efficiency management strategy. The bank also set aside 10.019 billion baht in expected credit loss provisions to cover economic uncertainty and future challenges, both domestic and international, which carry high volatility and require close monitoring.

Swiss Man Arrested for Sexual Abuse of 14-Year-Old Boy at Patong Beach

Swiss national arrested in Phuket on July 20 after sexually abusing a 14-year-old boy at Patong Beach on July 10; he faces charges including child sexual abuse and abduction.

Swiss Man Arrested for Sexual Abuse of 14-Year-Old Boy at Patong Beach
21 Jul Khaosod

At 1 p.m. on July 21, 2025, Paveena Hongsakul, director of the Paveena Hongsakul Foundation for Children and Women, traveled to Phuket to accompany the victim's mother to meet and coordinate with Pol. Col. Sinlert Sukum, commander of Phuket Provincial Police, and Pol. Major Korkrit Kandkruea, superintendent of Patong Police Station, to follow up on the case of a Swiss foreign national who lured and sexually abused a 14-year-old boy at Patong Beach. Police had obtained an arrest warrant and successfully apprehended the suspect.

The incident originated when on July 18, the boy's mother, referred to as B, reached out to the Paveena Hongsakul Foundation's Facebook page requesting help after her 14-year-old son was sexually abused. The abuse occurred on July 10. According to the boy's account, at approximately 2 p.m. while he had asked his mother for permission to walk on the beach, he encountered the foreign national, identified as C, who befriended him, asked to take a selfie together, requested his address and LINE contact. The man then convinced him to go swimming at Patong Beach, falsely claiming he would teach him to swim, before sexually abusing him in the water.

After returning home and telling his mother, she immediately took him for a medical examination at the hospital and filed a report at Patong Police Station. Subsequently, the suspect sent messages to the boy asking to meet again and sent photos they had taken together. When the mother saw these messages, she responded asking why he had digitally penetrated her son and touched his genitals. The suspect replied asking if the boy had enjoyed it and continued trying to coerce the boy to meet. The mother provided all evidence to police.

After the mother reported the case, she immediately contacted the Paveena Hongsakul Foundation. When Paveena received the report, she called the mother to clarify details and coordinated with Pol. Col. Sinlert Sukum and Pol. Major Korkrit Kandkruea to have the mother give a formal statement. After questioning, officers gathered evidence and applied for an arrest warrant.

On July 20, police arrested the suspect, seizing his mobile phone and laptop, which contained photos of the boy. The suspect was charged with three serious offenses: abduction of a child under 15 years old from a guardian for indecent purposes, committing an indecent act with a child under 15 years old, and sexually abusing a child under 15 years old. He was remanded in custody and the case was transferred to Phuket Provincial Court for prosecution.

Meanwhile, Paveena coordinated with Ms. Jilapon Chamachuk, director of the Financial Assistance Office for Crime Victims and Defendants; Wichian Chaisuwan, director of Justice at Phuket; Ms. Sukanyadha Potkaew, deputy director of Phuket Provincial Justice; and Namtap Rotsutthi, head of the Children and Family Shelter in Phuket to discuss protective and support measures for the victim should the suspect post bail, given concerns that the suspect is a reputable professional who might interfere with the case.

Paveena thanked Pol. Col. Sinlert Sukum and Pol. Major Korkrit Kandkruea for their swift action in apprehending the suspect. She urged any other child victims of this or any other offender to report to police, the Justice Office, or the Paveena Hongsakul Foundation at telephone numbers 063-2377327, 098-4788991, 081-8901355, 081-8140244, or the hotline 1134 to prosecute offenders who sexually abuse children.

Grace Clarifies Respect for Bachelor's Degrees While Pursuing PhD

Actress Grace Kanjchanarak clarified that she respects all education levels after comments about her master's degree sparked misunderstanding, emphasizing that bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees each have distinct value and purpose.

Grace Clarifies Respect for Bachelor's Degrees While Pursuing PhD
21 Jul Khaosod

Actress Grace Kanjchanarak has clarified that she does not look down on bachelor's degrees, emphasizing that all levels of education have their own value. In a video clip, Grace explained that she began working at age 15 while pursuing her studies, and during her university years she had no clear goals and felt like she was just going through the motions. She noted that her bachelor's degree gave her only a diploma, but her master's degree represented a life-changing moment and a new chapter for herself. This sparked some misunderstanding that Grace was disparaging bachelor's degrees.

At a recent press conference for the 8th National SMART Academic Conference at Dhurakij Pundit University, Grace clarified that she never intended to devalue undergraduate education. She explained that each level of education has distinct value: a bachelor's degree provides essential foundational knowledge, while master's and doctoral degrees involve deeper specialization. She emphasized that studying is an expression of responsibility to society, not simply finding information from Google or AI and repeating it.

Grace also revealed her special instructor persona—while she is naturally funny, she still delivers knowledge fully, creating classes that are both informative and entertaining with no sleepy students. When asked about her earlier comments that she gained little from her bachelor's degree beyond the diploma, Grace clarified: "That was taken as a short clip, but I wasn't saying undergraduate education is worthless. I got my degree and credentials, but I couldn't build upon what I learned then because my current career is acting. That field of study didn't support my professional path to the end."

She continued: "A master's degree is deeper study in a field, and a doctorate is the deepest specialization in that subject. It doesn't mean I have more knowledge overall. A bachelor's degree is foundational education meant to be applied in a career—every degree has its use, but a doctorate specifically goes deep into one subject. I don't diminish or look down on bachelor's degrees. My point is that if you want to know something, know it properly in that field, because it's a responsibility. As someone whose words carry weight, I can't just search Google or AI and repeat it. Studying is showing responsibility to society."

Japanese Woman Falls in Love with Thai Fried Rice

A Japanese woman living in Thailand for three months has fallen in love with Thai fried rice, praising its perfectly separated grains and customizable flavors, while discovering that Thai cuisine's intense spice levels and ingredient differ

Japanese Woman Falls in Love with Thai Fried Rice
21 Jul Khaosod

A 30-year-old Japanese woman named Hana recently shared her three-month experience living in Thailand on Threads, expressing her deep love for Thai fried rice, especially crab fried rice, which she says consistently delivers delicious results no matter which restaurant she visits. She notes that the appeal of Thai fried rice lies in its perfectly separated grains and the availability of fish sauce on the side for customization, allowing diners to adjust the flavor throughout the meal without getting tired. While her son prefers pineapple fried rice and she enjoys mushroom fried rice—a dish rarely found in Japan—Hana points out that Thai and Japanese cuisine differ significantly in ingredients and seasonings.

Initially, her family would carefully order small portions and playfully guess whether each dish would be sweet or spicy. However, what surprised her most was the intense spice level of Thai food, particularly basil stir-fry, which is typically mild in Japan unless extra spice is requested. She also found glass noodle salad shocking, as it starts tart but becomes intensely hot, even making water ineffective as relief. Despite these surprises, Hana's favorite Thai dish remains pad Thai, and after trying tom yum goong, she has begun to embrace Thai flavors more. She believes her palate is gradually adapting to Thai cuisine as she continues living in the country.
