F-5 Jet Tire Burst Forces Ubon Runway Closure
An F-5 TH fighter jet of the Royal Thai Air Force suffered a tire burst while landing at Ubon Ratchathani Airport on October 7, 2026, causing the runway to be closed temporarily. Several passenger flights from Bangkok, including FD3374 and VZ220, were diverted back to Bangkok as a result. Airport officials cleared the obstruction and reopened the runway at 1:30 p.m. the same day.
The Royal Thai Air Force stated that an F-5 TH fighter jet belonging to the 211th Squadron, 21st Wing, based in Ubon Ratchathani, encountered a malfunction on the airport’s runway at approximately 11:30 a.m. on October 7, 2026. The problem stemmed from a burst tire during landing, which can happen when the wheel strikes debris or foreign objects on the runway. As a result, several inbound passenger flights from Bangkok, such as flight FD3374 from Don Mueang and flight VZ220 from Suvarnabhumi, were unable to land and had to return to Bangkok. The runway was temporarily closed for safety while crews removed the disabled aircraft. Airport rescue teams and relevant agencies inspected the scene and provided assistance promptly. By 1:30 p.m., the runway had been cleared and returned to normal operation.
