Four-Meter Python Swallows Cat, Rescued From Drain
A four-meter python that swallowed a cat was extracted from a drainage pipe in Chachoengsao province after rescue officers responded to a resident's emergency call. The snake was relocated to a remote forest area to prevent future incidents
On the evening of July 29, rescue officers from the Dhammarasmi Manee Foundation responded to a call from residents in Mab Pong subdistrict, Ban Tong district, Chachoengsao province, reporting a large python that had entered a home, eaten a cat, and hidden in a drainage pipe beside the house. Officers and residents carefully used snares and tools to extract the snake in about ten minutes as onlookers watched in excitement.
Inspection revealed the python measured approximately four meters long, weighed about 30 kilograms, and had a visibly distended belly containing the remains of a recently swallowed cat. Officers placed the snake in a bag and released it into a remote area far from residential areas and pets to prevent it from returning.
Homeowner Ms. Kanrutee (surname withheld), 34, said she was shopping when family members called to report the incident. She rushed home to see the python escaping into the drain and immediately contacted rescue workers. The homeowner noted the snake arrived at house number 77 and plans to use that number for the August 1 lottery draw, hoping to gain luck from the unexpected event.
Rescue officer Mr. Panawal Ruenrom explained that the rainy season drives snakes from their habitats in search of food. The house's multiple pet cats and dense vegetation nearby created ideal hunting conditions for the python. Officers urged the public not to attempt capturing venomous snakes or reptiles themselves but to contact rescue services instead.
