Fried Banana Vendor Witnesses Rider Beaten at EV Charging Station
27 Jul Khaosod

On July 27, 2025, a fried banana vendor at a gas station opposite Minburi Prison witnessed a violent altercation between an MG sedan driver and a delivery rider at an EV charging bay. The vendor explained that the rider had parked in charging bay 2—which was unoccupied at the time—to pick up an order. After handing over the food, she continued working but soon heard raised voices and crude language. She watched as both men exited their vehicles, pushed each other, and exchanged challenges before the sedan driver punched the rider in the face, drawing blood. A nearby taxi driver intervened to stop the fight, and a woman from another vehicle began filming the scene. The vendor stated the situation resulted from an argument that escalated gradually, not a sudden unprovoked attack.

Security footage from the shop revealed the rider entered at 1:28:40 p.m. and left at 1:29:00 p.m., spending approximately 20 seconds at the shop. The rider has vowed to take the matter to its conclusion, claiming he suffered injuries requiring six stitches around his eye from the beating by the MG driver.

Nutritionist Warns Against Five Food Groups Before Bed

A nutritionist warns that caffeine, spicy foods, high-sugar items, gas-producing foods, and alcohol before bed disrupt sleep quality, while tryptophan-rich foods like milk and lean meat can help promote better rest.

Nutritionist Warns Against Five Food Groups Before Bed
27 Jul Khaosod

Many people lie down to sleep but end up tossing and turning all night. While stress and irregular sleep schedules are common culprits, dinner and late-night eating can also significantly impact sleep quality. Nutritionists recommend avoiding five groups of foods and beverages before bed: caffeinated drinks, spicy foods, high-glycemic-index foods, gas-producing foods, and alcohol, as these can make falling asleep difficult or cause frequent nighttime awakenings.

Caffeine and spicy foods increase the likelihood of insomnia. Lin Siuhang, a nutritionist from Good Food Class, explains that caffeinated beverages stimulate the nervous system, making it take longer to fall asleep and reducing sleep quality. Examples include coffee, tea, cola, chocolate, and energy drinks. Spicy foods containing chili peppers and strong spices can cause heartburn or acid reflux, making sleep more difficult.

Sweets and high-sugar foods may disrupt sleep. High-glycemic-index foods like candy and processed foods may cause initial drowsiness, but rapid blood sugar spikes followed by drops can interfere with sleep quality and increase nighttime waking. Gas-producing foods such as carbonated drinks, potatoes, and sticky rice, as well as bloating, also disrupt sleep. Alcohol may help with faster initial sleep but causes frequent nighttime awakenings, reduces deep sleep duration, and leads to waking early without feeling refreshed.

Consume foods rich in tryptophan to promote better sleep. For those wanting to improve sleep quality, Lin recommends eating foods rich in tryptophan, an amino acid the body uses to produce serotonin and melatonin, which regulate the sleep cycle. Tryptophan-rich foods include milk, soy products, lean meat, and whole grains. Additionally, consume vitamin B6-rich foods like salmon, bananas, and avocados, as B6 supports nervous system function and promotes tryptophan metabolism, enhancing sleep quality.

Improve sleep habits and see a doctor if insomnia persists. Beyond dietary changes, establishing good sleep behaviors is equally important: maintain consistent bedtimes and wake times, avoid mobile phones and electronic devices before sleep, and exercise regularly. However, if sleep problems persist for an extended period, consult a doctor for proper evaluation and treatment.

Thailand's Regional Economy Set to Expand Over Next Six Months
27 Jul Khaosod

The Office of Fiscal Policy (OFP) released its regional economic outlook index for July 2025, showing that Thailand's economy is expected to continue expanding over the next six months, with particularly strong confidence in the Eastern Region and Northeast Region. The growth is being driven by year-end tourism activity, government economic stimulus measures, and increased agricultural production supported by favorable weather conditions. Authorities remain alert to potential risks from energy price volatility, rising production costs, and adverse weather impacts.

Winit Wisetsuwannaphum, director of the OFP and spokesman for the Ministry of Finance, unveiled the findings on July 27, 2025, based on data collected from 76 provincial finance offices nationwide and the Thai Chamber of Commerce. The Eastern Region's confidence index stands at 76.5, with the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) particularly strong at 78.5, driven by services and industry. The region is benefiting from growing tourism trends, especially during the year-end season, along with government stimulus programs that are boosting visitor numbers and spending. The Northeast Region's index is at 72.4, supported by expanding agricultural output entering the market during harvest season and improving commodity prices, complemented by promotion of safe agricultural products and state stimulus measures.

The Western Region's index stands at 71.6, supported primarily by agriculture and industry. Agricultural output is improving thanks to ongoing government support, with increased coconut and pomelo supplies reaching market. Industrial activity is rising due to government economic stimulus, expanding demand, and improved investor confidence, though some businesses remain cautious about investment amid economic stabilization. The Northern Region's index is at 70.5, with services and industry driving expansion. The service sector is improving from stimulus measures and the approaching tourism season, while industry benefits from recovering demand, increased investment, and rising production levels. Authorities continue to monitor global economic conditions and energy costs as potential risk factors.

Survey Finds 16 Dugongs Off Trang Coast

A survey off Trang's coast found 16 dugongs along with 60 hawksbill turtles and a finless porpoise, with healthy grazing patterns indicating robust seagrass ecosystems vital to their survival.

Survey Finds 16 Dugongs Off Trang Coast
27 Jul Khaosod

The Department of Marine and Coastal Resources announced survey results from waters around Libong and Muk islands in Trang province, discovering a total of 77 rare marine animals comprising 16 dugongs, 60 hawksbill turtles, and one Indo-Pacific finless porpoise. A mother-calf dugong pair was also spotted, reflecting the richness of the seagrass ecosystem in the area.

The survey was conducted between July 20–23, 2024, by the Lower Andaman Marine and Coastal Resources Research Center using multirotor unmanned aerial vehicles to track dugong distribution, assess the health of rare marine species, and survey seagrass grazing patterns.

Rare marine animals were found scattered across multiple areas around Libong Island, including Ban Prao Bay, Samet Bay, Saphan Chang Canal mouth, Khlong Hwa, and Cape Chuyai. Remote health assessments showed all animals displaying normal behavior—grazing on seagrass, swimming, traveling, and rolling—with no signs of fishing gear injuries, marine debris, or abnormal behavior.

Officers also discovered dugong seagrass grazing marks at multiple locations including Cape Tho Chai, Ban Prao Bay, Saphan Chang Canal mouth, Khlong Hwa, Cape Chuyai, and Cape Phra Muang, representing positive signals of coastal ecosystem integrity and successful marine conservation in Trang province.

However, despite these encouraging results, experts continue closely monitoring impacts from climate change. Rising sea temperatures, storm intensity, coastal erosion, and changing water quality all affect seagrass ecosystem health. Degradation or loss of seagrass would jeopardize dugong survival, reproduction, and long-term viability.

Dugongs also remain threatened by fishing gear, boat strikes, and marine debris—particularly plastic—which continue to pose significant dangers to Thailand's rare marine species.

Former District Chief's Son Accused of Harming 4-Year-Old at Learning Center

A 24-year-old man whose father is a former district chief is accused of physically harming a 4-year-old girl at a learning center in Phayao on July 27, with the incident captured on CCTV and shared widely online.

Former District Chief's Son Accused of Harming 4-Year-Old at Learning Center
27 Jul Khaosod

A 24-year-old man, whose father is a former district chief, faces allegations of physically harming a 4-year-old girl at TK Park learning center in Phayao province. The incident occurred on July 27 when the girl cried loudly after losing a game, and closed-circuit camera footage was later shared on social media, sparking widespread public criticism.

After the incident, the suspect's family approached the victim's family at Muang Phayao Police Station to discuss the matter and accept responsibility, but negotiations failed. The victim's parents refused any assistance or compensation and insisted that police proceed with legal action only. During a mediated meeting at the learning center, the suspect's parents attended but the victim's family was absent as they were at Phayao Hospital for the child's medical examination.

According to the suspect's father, his son is a special-needs individual with severe sensitivity to three types of sounds: dogs barking, roosters crowing, and children crying. The family typically manages this by having him wear headphones and play music from his phone to minimize environmental noise impacts.

On the day of the incident, the young man heard the child crying and approached to tap or nudge her face to try to make her stop, hoping to reduce the noise triggering his condition. Because of his large stature, the closed-circuit footage was widely misinterpreted as him striking the child.

The suspect's father confirmed he visited the victim's family at the police station to express remorse and apologize, offering to accept full responsibility. However, the victim's parents rejected the offer, concerned about potential pressure given the suspect's family background as former government officials. The father stated his family respects the victims' decision and is prepared to let the legal process proceed.

American Sailor Survives Month Adrift in Pacific After Boat Breaks Down

A 39-year-old California sailor survived over a month adrift in the Pacific after his mast broke and communications failed, surviving on oatmeal and fish until a cargo ship spotted him near shipping lanes and pulled him to safety.

American Sailor Survives Month Adrift in Pacific After Boat Breaks Down
27 Jul Khaosod

A 39-year-old California sailor has made an incredible escape after drifting in the Pacific Ocean for more than a month following catastrophic boat damage and loss of communication.

Kai Sato left Catalina Island, California on June 7, but approximately two weeks into his voyage, his sailboat's mast broke, his fuel ran out, and his cell phone stopped working. Stranded far from major shipping routes with virtually no chance of rescue, Sato initially fell into despair, spending several days crying and feeling hopeless as ocean currents carried him further from safety. He described the period as feeling like a "sitting duck with no way to fight back," unable to control his situation or call for help.

After five days of surrendering to his circumstances, Sato made the decision to fight back and find a way to survive. He improvised temporary repairs to his boat using PVC pipes and kayak paddles to keep it afloat. While stranded at sea, he survived on whatever food was available—leftover oatmeal, fish, and squid that accidentally entered his boat—and collected drinking water by condensing sea vapor in tanks.

After nearly a month adrift, Sato managed to drift back toward the shipping lanes between California and Hawaii. A cargo ship heading to the Hawaiian Islands spotted him and came to his rescue. The crew had to lower a rope ladder twice before successfully pulling him aboard. Upon rescue, Sato expressed immense gratitude for receiving food, water, and fresh clothing from the rescue team, crediting them with excellent care. He is now recovering with relatives in Hawaii and plans to continue his voyage to the Philippines on a larger boat in the future.

Immigration Revokes Visa, Blacklists Chinese Suspect in Hotel Gambling Ring

Immigration has revoked the visa and blacklisted a Chinese national arrested in a Nonthaburi hotel raid targeting an illegal gambling and human trafficking ring that also involved drug sales.

Immigration Revokes Visa, Blacklists Chinese Suspect in Hotel Gambling Ring
27 Jul Khaosod

Following a raid by the Central Investigation Police's anti-trafficking unit on a Nonthaburi hotel used as an operational base for a foreign shadow capital group running illegal gambling, drug use and sales, and human trafficking, four suspects were arrested: one Chinese national and three Myanmar nationals, with substantial evidence seized.

On July 27, 2025, Deputy Commander Pinyachit Klinkaset of Immigration Division 3 revealed that immigration officers had previously raided the same location in 2023 and arrested over 40 Thai and foreign gamblers before the hotel closed for renovation. Following the arrest, Nonthaburi immigration coordinated with investigators to review the foreign suspects' information and submitted a proposal to revoke permission to stay in Thailand for Liu Chao, 33, a Chinese national, while preparing to place him on the blacklist to prevent future entry.

The three Myanmar nationals face charges of illegal entry and residence and will be processed under the Immigration Act of 1979 and related laws, including deportation and possible blacklisting procedures.

Immigration confirmed that while Thailand's government prioritizes economic stimulus and quality tourism, foreign nationals engaged in criminal activity or associated with criminal organizations will face strict legal action. The operation aligns with National Police Chief Phanumas Bunyalaksa's directive to enhance screening, vetting, and enforcement against foreign nationals committing crimes or threatening national security, particularly combating transnational crime, shadow capital groups, and all forms of illegal activity using Thailand as a base.

The public is urged to report any suspected criminal activity to immigration authorities.

New Mom's Essential Checklist Before Delivery Day

First-time mothers should prepare a hospital bag during the third trimester with essentials like diapers, soft clothing, swaddles, and gentle cleaning supplies to reduce stress and ensure a smooth delivery day.

New Mom's Essential Checklist Before Delivery Day
27 Jul Khaosod

First-time pregnancy typically comes with both excitement and worry. Welcoming a new family member involves many details, making early preparation of a mother and baby supply basket essential for easing anxiety and helping first-time mothers face labor confidently. Here's a checklist of necessary items to prepare warmly and safely.

Why prepare a mother and baby bag in advance?

Planning and gathering supplies before your due date ensures everything runs smoothly on delivery day, reduces panic, and lets you choose the best products for your child. When labor begins, a prepared hospital bag and ready supplies significantly reduce chaos. You and your family won't waste time worrying about missing items. Advance preparation builds maximum confidence and peace of mind for the hospital trip.

The best time to start buying delivery supplies

Pureen, a mother and baby product expert, recommends: "Preparing during the third trimester is a smart strategy for first-time mothers, as it effectively reduces physical and mental stress while emphasizing the selection of medically tested products for maximum safety of newborns who may arrive early."

Essential newborn mother and baby supplies

Choosing mother and baby items for infants must prioritize necessity, safety, and suitability for delicate newborn skin, ensuring practical use that meets your baby's natural daily needs.

1. Cloth diapers and disposable diapers—a newborn's first necessity

Pureen experts recommend: "Diapers are the first item to pack in your hospital bag. In the first week, prepare about 2 packs of disposable newborn diapers along with at least 2 dozen cloth diapers to handle frequent baby bowel movements and keep your baby's skin dry and comfortable, reducing moisture buildup effectively."

2. Swaddles and soft terry towels to maintain warmth

Newborns cannot regulate body temperature, so soft, thick swaddles like cotton are essential for warmth during adjustment. Soft towels help dry the skin thoroughly after bathing, protecting delicate skin from irritation and moisture accumulation.

3. Newborn clothing, mittens, socks, and hats for temperature regulation

Choose 100% natural fiber garments like cotton or muslin that breathe well and fasten easily with front buttons. Pair with hats, mittens, and socks—essential textiles that help maintain newborn body warmth and protect against rapid environmental temperature changes.

4. Cleaning supplies: cotton swabs, cotton pads, and baby wipes

Caring for a newborn's eyes, umbilical cord, and skin requires the utmost gentleness. Pure soft cotton swabs and pads without residue, plus gentle baby wipes that don't irritate newborn skin, are essential items.

Cabinet Approves Tax Exemption for Early-Retiring Military Officers
27 Jul Khaosod

The Cabinet has approved draft regulations implementing a tax exemption for military officers participating in the Defence Ministry's early retirement program during fiscal years 2568–2570, according to Deputy Prime Minister's Office Spokesperson Lalida Perdiswivat. The exemption covers lump-sum assistance payments and benefits from the Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF) received upon retirement, designed to ease the tax burden on participants and support the government's workforce restructuring initiative. The measure aligns with a July 9, 2567 Cabinet resolution approving the early retirement program, which aims to right-size military personnel levels, reduce overcrowding in senior ranks, improve personnel management flexibility, and achieve long-term budget savings. Eligible participants—military officers of colonel rank and above, aged 50 or older with a minimum of 25 years of service and at least 2 years remaining—will receive lump-sum assistance of approximately 7–10 times their final monthly salary plus position allowance, all exempt from individual income tax starting in the 2568 tax year. The same tax exemption framework was previously applied to the Defence Ministry's early retirement program during fiscal years 2557–2561. Lalida noted that the tax relief will allow participants to receive full assistance, reduce their tax burden during the transition out of service, and incentivize program participation to achieve the military's workforce restructuring goals while enabling the state to manage personnel budgets efficiently over the long term. The Finance Ministry estimates the government will forgo approximately 40 million baht annually, or about 120 million baht total over the three-year program period, by implementing the tax exemption.

Man Arrested for Stabbing With Screwdriver Over Bicycle Dispute

A 26-year-old man was arrested for stabbing a 52-year-old with a screwdriver at a public park in Udon Thani over a disputed bicycle sale that escalated into a violent confrontation.

Man Arrested for Stabbing With Screwdriver Over Bicycle Dispute
27 Jul Khaosod

A 26-year-old man identified as Bank has been arrested after stabbing 52-year-old Chalad with a screwdriver at Nong Prajak Silpakam public park in Udon Thani on July 25 evening. The victim suffered serious injuries to his abdomen and right arm after a severed artery, witnessed by people exercising in the park. The suspect fled the scene but turned himself in the following morning.

Bank confessed to the stabbing and revealed the dispute originated over a bicycle transaction. He claimed the victim had sold him the bicycle for 200 baht but refused to release it. When Bank later asked to borrow the bicycle, the victim refused, leading to an argument and the victim punching him. Later that evening, Bank returned to confront the victim but was stabbed first with the screwdriver. He then grabbed the weapon and stabbed back in retaliation before fleeing.

Bank stated he felt little remorse for his actions, citing that the victim attacked him first. His girlfriend convinced him to turn himself in after learning the victim survived. Police charged him with drug possession after a urine test indicated methamphetamine use; he admitted to using two to three pills daily. Additional charges for causing serious bodily injury were filed, while investigators are determining whether attempted murder charges apply.
