The Saraburi beauty pageant scene is buzzing again with an inspiring story. Morphine, the program director and mentor behind Miss Universe Saraburi, invited the current titleholder Jenny to share her personal journey in an exclusive talk show, revealing a life story of resilience that few have heard before.

During the talk, Jenny disclosed how she has fought through life since age 10, growing up in a violent environment and facing both physical and emotional pain. She reached her lowest point, believing she was alone and had no one to rely on. However, her life changed when she entered the pageant and met Morphine and the Saraburi team, who became not just her mentors but a safe space and true family for her.

"My whole life I've had to fight alone, growing up with wounds I never chose," Jenny shared emotionally. "I thought I'd never experience real family love like others do. But meeting Mom Morphine and the Saraburi team has been the greatest gift. They showed me I'm not alone anymore, and they are my real family."

Morphine added, "For us, running this pageant isn't just about finding a pretty face to wear a crown. It's about giving opportunities and helping someone grow strong. From the moment I heard Jenny's story, I knew this girl has incredible strength and heart. The entire Saraburi team committed to supporting her every step of the way."

The full conversation, filled with tears, smiles, and heartfelt moments between this mother-daughter pair from Saraburi, is available on Facebook through Morphine's page and the Miss Universe Saraburi official page.

Lawyer Admits Knowing Man with Same Surname Jailed 16 Years on Drug Charges
3 Aug Khaosod

Lawyer Phatthrapong Suphakson, known as 'Lawyer On' from Buriram, has acknowledged knowing a person with the same surname who was convicted and imprisoned for 16 years on drug trafficking charges. The controversy arose when authorities began investigating a lawyer in the northeastern region with an identical surname to the politically active lawyer, after discovering that the convicted person had allegedly used a name-change document to apply for a law license. In a personal video on July 29, 2025, Lawyer On responded forcefully to deny being that person, and in an interview on July 31, he provided a timeline of his life, stating he was a high school student in 1999, attended Ramkhamhaeng University from 2001-2004, then went to Australia, and returned in 2006. He served as a soldier in 2007 and became a lawyer in 2009. When pressed on whether he knows the person with the same surname, Lawyer On admitted that yes, the person received a 16-year sentence according to the justice process, but insisted the matter is not his concern and that he is not involved in politics. He challenged critics to identify the person by name and argued that if society believes he is that person, it reflects poorly on his character given his background and commitment to upholding the law. A justice sector source confirmed that the drug conviction involved sentences from courts in Buriram, Sisaket, and Phrae, with case numbers 2538/2542 and 938/2544. Bar Association leadership has expressed displeasure with Lawyer On's July 29 video and is preparing to review his conduct for potential disciplinary action.

UN Observers Visit Contaminated Rivers, Hear from Affected Communities

Between July 28 and August 2, 2025, civil society networks including the ETOs Watch Coalition, Community Information Center Foundation, Community and Highland Development Foundation (CDHF), Mekong River Freedom group, and Rivers and Rights conducted field research and held meetings with academics and residents in the Kok, Sai, Ruak, and Mekong river basins across multiple communities in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai provinces. UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights representatives and Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) officials observed the field work.

At Mae Sai district, Thongkham Inprom, chairman of the Mae Sai irrigation canal water users group, reported that Mae Sai is a critical agricultural area with over 60,000 rai of farmland supporting 47 villages across four subdistricts. The Mae Sai and Ruak rivers are used directly for irrigation and as raw water sources for drinking water systems. Heavy metal contamination exceeding safety standards has been detected 18 times. "Although current rice yields test within acceptable limits, farmers worry about long-term impacts—toxin accumulation in soil, groundwater, and the food chain," he stated, urging the government to provide clean groundwater with solar-powered pumping systems and transparent water quality disclosure.

Fishers from Sop Kok village in Chiang Saen reported severe economic impacts from Mekong contamination, with fish prices dropping by half as consumers avoid Mekong fish. They also noted that upstream Chinese dams cause unnatural water level fluctuations, compounded by toxic sludge from mining in neighboring countries. Residents called for urgent government support for standard water filtration systems in their community, which relies directly on Mekong water.

The team toured the Mekong along the Thai-Lao border from Chiang Khong to the Ing River mouth. Village headman Manop Munnirat of Pak Ing Tai reported dramatic changes: fish species have dwindled from hundreds to dozens, and fishing boats decreased from hundreds to just ten. Residents now must seek work elsewhere.

A 19-year-old claims he encountered an armed man impersonating police on a dark road in Huai Yai before five people were murdered in the area, with potential witnesses spotted nearby.

Youth Describes Encounter With Armed Man Posing as Police Before Five Murders
3 Aug Khaosod

A 19-year-old identified as Mr. A reported to journalists on August 3, 2025, that after hearing about the five-person homicide in Huai Yai subdistrict, he recalled a terrifying encounter with a man he identified as Thana (nicknamed "Pong") that likely occurred before the murders. The incident took place around midnight to 1 a.m. as Mr. A was riding his motorcycle home after visiting a friend. While passing through Soi Pliew, a road he uses regularly, he encountered a man dressed like a police officer standing in the middle of the street with a gun. The man ordered him to stop and asked where he was going; Mr. A replied he was heading home and was allowed to continue.

As he rode past, Mr. A noticed two women sitting oddly with their heads down in a wooded area beside the road, but he was too frightened by the armed man to pay attention and quickly left the scene. Mr. A insists that although he cannot recall the exact date and time, he is certain the incident occurred before the Russian siblings' murder case made headlines and before the family massacre became major news. He has called for the perpetrators and all involved parties to face the full force of the law, fearing they may commit similar crimes if released in the future.

Journalists who visited the scene with Mr. A found indentations in the grass that resembled traces of people sitting, though the evidence remains circumstantial.

Member of Parliament Vachrayapong Khoovichitsuwan of Saraburi from the Phum Jai Thai party posted on his personal Facebook: "Wearing shorts on your own legs while not bothering anyone else—I think that's better than those who wear government uniforms and then rob farmers' descendants to rig local exams." His post aligned with Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, who as party leader also posted family vacation photos with the caption "Wearing shorts is fine...it's comfortable," along with the hashtag #JustKeepCool, in response to criticism directed at party elder Naewin Chidchob. Motorcyclist Dies in Collision with Parked Pile-Driver Truck
3 Aug Khaosod

At approximately 5 a.m. on August 3, 2025, emergency responders were alerted to a crash on Huai Pong-Nong Bon Road in Rayong's Muang District. A motorcycle had collided with the rear of a parked pile-driver truck that was stopped on the roadside with warning markers. When rescue teams arrived, they found the motorcyclist unconscious and unresponsive, pinned beneath his bike. They immediately performed CPR and called for emergency medical support from Srinagarind Hospital, but the rider died before medical teams could arrive.

One detail that shocked responders and witnesses was that the victim's hand remained clenched tightly around a single 100-baht banknote. No identification documents were discovered on his body or motorcycle.

The truck driver explained that his brakes had suddenly failed at approximately 2 a.m. as he was transporting pile-driver stakes from a factory to a customer. He had parked safely on the roadside and placed wooden branches on the road as warning signals to alert other drivers. While resting in the cab waiting for a mechanic, he heard a loud crash and came down to find the motorcyclist critically injured with severe head bleeding. He immediately called emergency services.

Police from Huai Pong Station are investigating the incident, documenting evidence and questioning the truck driver. Authorities are also working to locate the victim's family to arrange proper funeral rites.

Government Urges 5.2 Million to Review Welfare Card Benefits
3 Aug Khaosod

Government spokesman Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek announced updates on identity verification and welfare card benefit reviews on August 3. Of 9.5 million people who qualified, 6.3 million existing cardholders need no additional verification, while 3.1 million new cardholders must complete e-KYC identity verification. According to the Interior Ministry's August 2 data, about 2.1 million new cardholders (69%) have verified their identity, leaving approximately 980,000 people (31%) who have not yet completed the process. The government is actively tracking and promoting the procedure to prevent people from losing eligibility.

For those who failed initial qualification, the government opened an appeals process, with over 4.1 million (44%) applications already submitted. Approximately 5.2 million (56%) eligible people remain who can still appeal. The deadline for applications is August 31, 2026, accessible through government apps, the Pao Tang wallet app, project websites, five state banks, and 878 One Stop Service centers nationwide. Special assistance is available for elderly people, disabled persons, and vulnerable groups who find online services difficult.

Ms. Ratchada stated the government is committed to ensuring eligible citizens do not lose welfare benefits due to inconvenience or lack of information. She urged the remaining 980,000 new cardholders who have not completed identity verification and the 5.2 million people who have not submitted appeals to act promptly before the deadline to receive full welfare benefits.
