General's Son Sets Fire to Home Before Suicide in Bangkok
A retired general's son set fire to his Bangkok home and fatally shot himself as SWAT teams entered on September 25, with military weapons and explosives later discovered inside.
At 9:30 a.m. on September 25, 2569, Bang Phlat Police Station received a report of a residential fire on Charusap Soi in Bang Phlat District. Neighbors heard multiple gunshots and alerted firefighters and police. Officers found a man in distress armed with a firearm who refused to surrender, identified as Nasorawut. A 200-meter perimeter was established to prevent civilian casualties.
Firefighters attempted to control the blaze while the armed man remained inside and refused to surrender, making firefighting efforts difficult. SWAT teams, numbering more than ten officers, were called to surround and enter the property. When the man realized officers were entering, he decided to take his own life on the second floor, where the fire was simultaneously spreading.
SWAT units entered to investigate while firefighters worked to contain the flames. It took over an hour to fully control the fire. Inside the residence, officers discovered military weapons, ammunition, and a large quantity of explosives. An EOD team was contacted to assess and retrieve the ordnance.
The deceased was identified as the son of a retired high-ranking military officer. The motive for the incident remains under investigation. The body was found seated in a chair on the second floor, holding a firearm, with explosive devices discovered in an adjacent room.
