GEPF Partners Global Allies to Boost Member Investment Returns
GEPF Secretary Sorrapol Tulayathiti warned that pension funds face growing complexity as asset classes move together and AI drives massive capital flows. Speaking at an OMFIF roundtable, he said generating returns above inflation remains a challenge amid geopolitical and interest‑rate uncertainty. GEPF is focusing on real‑asset investments and regional partnerships to secure long‑term member returns.
GEPF says investment is entering an era of increasingly complex risk, with different asset classes moving in the same direction, while AI draws massive capital, creating both opportunity and risk. GEPF Secretary Sorrapol Tulayathiti shared his views at the OMFIF roundtable “Southeast Asia in a Changing Global Economy: Mobilising Capital for Growth.” He said one of the key challenges for pension funds today is generating long‑term returns that outpace inflation amid geopolitical uncertainty, shifting interest rates and global economic volatility. At the same time, many asset classes are highly correlated—stocks and bonds move together—making diversification and portfolio construction more complex. The AI‑driven investment wave is a major driver of the world economy, spurring spending on infrastructure and energy systems, yet investors must still assess the commercial viability of projects and watch for valuation risks that exceed fundamentals, especially in winner‑takes‑all industries where returns may concentrate among a few players. GEPF’s investment approach remains focused on long‑term financial security for members while supporting economic development, emphasizing real‑asset investments that generate steady cash flows and enhance long‑return stability. The fund also continues to build partnerships with international funds, financial institutions and leading institutional investors in the region to promote economic linkages, mobilise capital for promising projects, support Southeast Asian growth and create sustainable long‑term investment opportunities.
