Heavy Rain Alert For Thailand Sep 22-26, Five Provinces Face Flooding
A strengthening low-pressure system will bring heavy rainfall to Thailand from September 22-26, with five regions facing flooding and flash flood risks including parts of the northern, northeastern, central, eastern, and southern areas.
The National Water Resources Office (NWRO) has issued alert number 5/2569 concerning flooding, flash floods, and overflow risks. A strengthening low-pressure system off central Vietnam will move into Thailand along the monsoon trough affecting the northern region, while the southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, southern region, and Gulf of Thailand will intensify. This will increase rainfall nationwide, with heavy to very heavy precipitation in some areas.
High-alert zones from September 22-26, 2569 include the lower northern region, lower northeast, central region, eastern region, and upper southern region, all facing risks of flooding, flash floods, flash flooding, and landslides.
Northern provinces include Mae Hong Son (Sop Moei, Mae Sariang, and Khun Yuam districts), Tak (Umphang, Tha Song Yang, Mae Ramat, and Mae Sot districts), Phitsanulok (Noen Maprang, Chat Trakan, and Wang Thong districts), and Uthai Thani (Lan Sak and Ban Rai districts).
Northeast areas include Sisaket Province (Phu Sing district). Central regions include Lopburi (Muang and Nong Muang districts), Saraburi (Nong Khae and Phra Phut Bhat districts), Pathum Thani (Muang district), Nonthaburi (Muang and Pak Kret districts), Bangkok, and Samut Prakan (Bang Bo district).
Western areas include Kanchanaburi (Sangkhla Buri, Si Sawat, Phanom Thuan, and Thong Pha Phum districts) and Ratchaburi (Chom Bueng and Suan Phueng districts).
Eastern provinces include Nakhon Nayok (Pak Pli and Muang districts), Prachuap Khiri Khan (Muang, Si Maha Phot, and Pra Chantakham districts), Sa Kaeo (Aranyaprathet, Watthana Nakhon, and Khao Chikhan districts), Chachoengsao (Muang, Bo Thong, Si Racha, and Ban Bueng districts), Chanthaburi (Makeam, Khlong Haeng Maeaw, Po Thalung, Khlung, and Khao Khichakut districts), and Trat (Muang and Bo Rai districts).
Southern zones include Ranong (Kapoe district), Songkhla (Hat Yai, Khlong Hoi Khong, and Sadao districts), and Narathiwat (Ra Ngae, Sukirin, and Su-Khirin-Gho-Lok districts).
The NWRO also warns of rapid water level rises, overflow, and flooding in low-lying areas along major rivers and tributaries: Mae Mey, Nam Yuan, and Mae Sariang streams in Mae Hong Son; Wang Thong River in Phitsanulok; Phachi River in Ratchaburi; Nakhon Nayok River in Nakhon Nayok; Prachuap Khiri Khan River in Prachuap Khiri Khan; Khlong Phra Saturng and Khlong Phra Prang in Sa Kaeo; Chanthaburi River in Chanthaburi; Khlong Kapoe in Ranong; and Buri and Ko-Lok rivers in Narathiwat.
Downstream of the Chao Phraya Dam requires close monitoring. Floodwaters from the upper basin are forecast to reach 1,500 cubic meters per second through the dam, raising water levels approximately 0.75-1.25 meters. At-risk areas include Chainat (Saraphee district), Singburi (In Buri district), and Ang Thong.
