Heavy Rain Floods Roads in Buriram, Threatens Rice Crops
Heavy rains have flooded roads in Buriram province's Nong Sai subdistrict, with water overflowing into over 100 rai of rice fields that could suffer severe crop damage if submersion exceeds a week.
Heavy, continuous rain in Buriram province has caused flooding on the road connecting Nong Sai subdistrict in Nang Rong district to Kok Wan subdistrict in La Han Sai district, with water levels exceeding 30 centimeters over a 200-meter stretch and making vehicle travel difficult. Floodwater has also overflowed into agricultural areas affecting more than 100 rai of farmland, with water expected to remain for over a week if additional heavy rain occurs, causing severe damage to rice crops. Laong Prabpai, a 67-year-old local resident, explained that some of the water flows from Non Din Daeng district through La Han Sai before accumulating in Nong Sai subdistrict, and that rice plants would rot if submerged for longer than a week. Somchai Hom Lok, subdistrict chief of Nong Sai, stated that the subdistrict administration has installed barriers, rubber cones, and reflectors for safety while surveying damage and coordinating assistance for affected farmers, with water expected to take approximately 15 days to recede due to the area being a low-lying basin.
