Heavy Rain Warning Issued for Thailand Oct 9-13
Thailand’s Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain warning for October 9–13, forecasting thunderstorms, strong winds, and possible hail across the country. Bangkok and surrounding areas are expected to experience the worst of the weather for three days. Residents are urged to prepare for flash floods and take precautions while traveling.
The Meteorological Department issued Warning No. 1 on October 7, 2025, predicting heavy to very heavy rain across Thailand from October 9 to 13. The weather will be unstable, with thunderstorms, strong gusty winds, and occasional hail. On October 9, the lower Northeast and South will be affected; on October 10, the lower North, lower Northeast, Central region including Bangkok and vicinity, East, and South; on October 11, the lower North, Central region including Bangkok and vicinity, East, and South; on October 12, the lower Central region including Bangkok and vicinity, and the South; and on October 13, the South. The cause is a high-pressure system from China extending over upper Thailand, combined with a monsoon trough over the upper South and persistent southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, southern Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. The public is advised to guard against dangers from thunderstorms, strong winds, heavy to very heavy rain, and accumulated rainfall that could trigger flash floods and overflowing streams, especially in hilly areas near waterways and low-lying zones prone to inundation. Avoid open spaces, large trees, and weak billboards. For the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand, waves may exceed two meters during thunderstorms; sailors should check routes and navigate with caution, avoiding areas with thunderstorms. To stay safe, plan travel and activities carefully, follow updates from the Meteorological Department via its website www.tmd.go.th or phone numbers 0-2399-4012-13 and 1182, available 24 hours a day. The next warning will be issued later the same day at 5:00 p.m.
