Legendary 1990s Duet Duo Tong Wongthoo Dies at 56
Suraphan Jamlongkul, known as Tong Wongthoo, a celebrated duet performer from Thailand's 1990s music scene, has died at age 56 from stage 4 nasal cavity cancer. A water-sprinkling ceremony and merit-making chanting were held on September 29, 2025, at Wat Phra Sri Maha Dhatu Worramahaviharn in Bangkok, attended by numerous entertainment industry colleagues and fans. The funeral rites and cremation are scheduled to take place over several days beginning September 30.
A solemn water-sprinkling ceremony was held on September 29, 2025, for Suraphan Jamlongkul, known as Tong Wongthoo, a celebrated 1990s duet performer who passed away peacefully on September 28 at age 56 following treatment for stage 4 nasal cavity cancer.
Prior to his death, his daughter had appealed for blood donations on social media after her father underwent surgery and lost a significant amount of blood, requiring transfusions and platelet treatment.
On September 28, Tong Wongthoo's brother announced the singer's passing at 10:20 a.m. following treatment for the serious illness.
At 2:30 p.m. that day, a hearse from Suriya Coffin Service transported Tong Wongthoo's body to Hall 18 of Wat Phra Sri Maha Dhatu Worramahaviharn. His eldest daughter carried incense as the casket was brought into the hall, where the body was placed on a platform and prepared for the water-sprinkling ceremony and merit-making chanting.
At 4:00 p.m., the water-sprinkling ceremony began, presided over by Karich Thomas, former assistant managing director of Grammy Gold. The ceremony was followed by family members, relatives, and close friends from the entertainment industry, including To Wongthoo (To Sahapap), Nu Meter (Srangchai Ruangsri), Pae Hi-Rock (Surach Tubwang), and John Bravo (Wichai Mesom), as well as fans who came to pay their respects.
At 5:30 p.m., four Buddhist monks were invited to conduct the first night of chanting, with the Jamlongkul family, Bass Pongpat Sinsuwannakul, and Ball Pongpetch Sinsuwannakul (Bangkaew artists) as hosts.
The atmosphere was filled with sorrow as Tong Wongthoo, a renowned producer and legendary-era artist, departed. Entertainment industry colleagues including To Wongthoo, Nu Meter, Pae Hi-Rock, John Bravo, Tiger Thanapol, Chompoo Fruity, and Ping Fruity attended to pay their respects.
