Mae Hong Son Braces for Flash Floods After Three Days of Rain
Mae Hong Son issued flash flood warnings after three days of heavy rain threatened five districts, with Mae Lana Noi experiencing the worst damage as over 50 homes flooded and infrastructure worth 30 million baht was destroyed.
Mae Hong Son province issued a warning on September 19, 2026, after three consecutive days of heavy rainfall threatened flash flooding and landslides across five districts. The provincial disaster prevention office alerted residents in Muang Mae Hong Son, Khun Yuam, Mae Lana Noi, Mae Sariang, and Sob Moei via mobile phone, with rain expected to continue. Authorities advised people in low-lying areas and near hillsides to move belongings to higher ground, relocate vehicles, and secure valuables and important documents while avoiding electrical hazards and caring for vulnerable groups.
This is the fourth flood event in the region this year. Mae Lana Noi district experienced the heaviest impact, hit by an intense rainfall event within just one hour that swollen three main waterways—Mae Hu creek, La stream, and Inai stream—flooding over 50 homes across seven communities and damaging five pieces of infrastructure worth more than 30 million baht. District and subdistrict officials coordinated cleanup and recovery efforts in affected villages. Mae Sariang district also saw the Mae Sariang River overflow, blocking roads near Saen Thong temple and preventing vehicle traffic, while local authorities and volunteers worked to clear debris.
While residents, having experienced previous floods, were able to evacuate most valuables to higher ground, damage was primarily to structures surrounding homes such as animal pens, bathrooms, and kitchens. Local agencies are using machinery to clear obstruction and alleviate resident hardship.
