Meteorology Bureau Issues Alert 9: Severe Rain Across 14 Central Provinces

The Thai Meteorology Department issued Alert 9 on September 19, 2025 at 5:00 a.m. warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall across Thailand and strong winds in the Andaman Sea from September 19-20. Heavy rainfall is expected in scattered areas, with very heavy falls in parts of the south, caused by a high-pressure system from China moving over the upper northern and northeastern regions, pushing the monsoon trough southward across the lower central, eastern, and upper southern regions. The southwest monsoon is quite strong over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.

The public is urged to be cautious of dangers from heavy to very heavy rainfall and accumulated rain, which may cause flash flooding and flash floods, especially in hillsides near waterways and low-lying areas. Travel on roads with chronic flooding problems should be avoided, particularly in low-lying areas prone to short-term water accumulation.

Waves in the Andaman Sea are quite strong, reaching 2-3 meters high, and exceeding 3 meters in thunderstorm areas. Fishermen in the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea should navigate carefully and avoid areas with thunderstorms. Small boats in the Andaman Sea should remain ashore from September 19-20.

Today's weather forecast for the next 24 hours shows Thailand with scattered heavy rain, particularly in the central region including Bangkok and its surroundings, while the south experiences very heavy rainfall in some areas. Residents should be alert to hazards including flash flooding, flash floods, and landslides, especially in hillside and low-lying areas. Avoid travel on roads with recurring flood problems.
