Man Sets House Ablaze, Fires at Police in Bangkok Siege
A man set his Bangkok home ablaze and opened fire on police responding to the scene in Bang Phlat district, forcing officers to take cover; the suspect was found dead inside the burning house as authorities discovered firearms and suspected
Early on September 25, Bang Lamphu Police received a report of an incident on Soi Charan Sanitwongse 67, Bang Phlat district, Bangkok, involving a man in a deranged state who had set his own house on fire. Neighbours who witnessed the incident were alarmed and quickly notified authorities. Police, firefighters, and rescue personnel responded to the scene to control the situation and extinguish the flames before they could spread to neighbouring homes.
While officers were working at the scene, the suspect opened fire with a gun at close range, forcing police and other personnel to take cover for safety. It was later reported that the suspect had died inside the house on the second floor, and officials were investigating the scene.
Initial findings indicate the house belonged to a retired military officer, and the suspect was his son. Officers have been unable to fully investigate because suspected explosives were found hanging in the area and multiple military-grade firearms were discovered inside. Bomb disposal experts were called to the scene. Authorities have cordoned off the area and begun urgently evacuating residents and neighbours living within the danger zone.
