Man Sets Own House on Fire, Fires Gun at Officials in Bangkok
A mentally distressed man set his Bangkok home ablaze and fired gunshots at firefighters and police responding to the blaze on September 25, forcing evacuation of the surrounding neighborhood.
On the morning of September 25, a man showing signs of mental disturbance set his own house on fire in Soi Charoen Sanit Wong 67, Bang Phlat district, Bangkok, causing a rapid blaze. Alarmed neighbors reported the incident and authorities responded. Police, firefighters and rescue personnel rushed to the scene to control the situation and extinguish the fire, preventing it from spreading to nearby homes. However, as responders worked, the man fired multiple gunshots in their direction, forcing officials and others to seek cover for safety and hampering firefighting and apprehension efforts. Authorities have now cordoned off the area and begun urgent evacuation of residents from the surrounding danger zone.
