Mother and Daughter Fall From Bangkok Apartment

A 48-year-old woman suffering from depression and experiencing fears that someone would harm her jumped from the fourth floor of a Bangkok apartment with her 3-year-old daughter on September 19, leaving both seriously injured.

Deputy investigation inspector Jutthaphon Mueang Song at Phaya Thai Police Station was notified of the incident at Phet Siam Apartment on Soi Phetchaburi 37 in Makkasan, Ratchathewi district. Police and emergency responders from Ramathibodi Hospital and the Ruam Katanyu Foundation rushed to the scene.

The woman, identified as Yupin Chedchai, 48, and her 3-year-old daughter, Phattharin Thinsung, were found lying behind the building breathing weakly. Both had fallen from the rear balcony of room 417 on the fourth floor. Rescue workers transported them both to Ramathibodi Hospital for treatment.

Police forced open the locked fourth-floor room and found no signs of struggle or disturbance inside. Yupin had been separated from her husband and living in the apartment with her two daughters for several years. She was not working and had been diagnosed with depression, with her brother and relatives helping cover her monthly rent of over 3,000 baht and living expenses.

Witnesses reported that Yupin had previously experienced hallucinations and repeatedly told other residents that someone was going to harm her. Police initially suspected that severe stress and fears may have led her to jump with her daughter. Both mother and daughter were reported to be in stable condition, though police had not yet been able to interview Yupin due to her medical treatment. The investigation remains ongoing.
