MP Promises Refund After Flood Victims Charged Parking Fee
A Thai MP has pledged to recover parking fees charged to flood victims who sought shelter at a Bangkok BTS station, after the transit operator initially refused refunds despite later waiving charges.
Bunyarueai Yamchinda, a list-based MP and leader of the United Thai Party, has received complaints from residents affected by flooding who sought temporary parking at the Orange Line BTS station on Rama Road in the Khlong Ban Ma area and were charged 1,000 baht per vehicle. Yamchinda parked four family vehicles at the station and was required to pay the same charge for each. Later in the afternoon, station staff announced that parking would be free going forward. When Yamchinda asked whether the already-collected fees would be refunded, the company declined. He has now committed to the complainants that he will work to recover and return the parking fees to hundreds of affected residents.
