Mystery Hand Found in Mae Hong Son River, Investigation Ongoing

On October 6, 2026, Mae Sariang District Chief Worasak Phanthong was notified by local leaders of the discovery of human remains in the Yuam River at Tung Laeng Village, Mae Khong Subdistrict, Mae Sariang District, Mae Hong Son Province. He assigned Wekij Jaduri, the district’s chief security officer, together with Bodin Decha, another security officer, to lead a team comprising Mae Sariang Territorial Defence volunteers, Mae Sariang police, Mae Khong Subdistrict Administrative Organization staff, and rescuers from the Mae Sariang Rescue Association to the scene. At the riverside rice field, investigators recovered a left hand of an unidentified individual, appearing feminine and showing wrinkles and veins typical of an older person. Positive identification awaits forensic analysis. Meanwhile, authorities learned that a person had been reported missing from Tha Phapubum Subdistrict, Mae La Noi District, Mae Hong Son Province since October 4, 2026, prompting coordination with the Mae La Noi district security office to bring relatives forward for information and identity verification. Mae Sariang District will continue searching for the rest of the body and will work with relevant agencies to complete the identification process before releasing the remains to the family for religious rites.
