PM Chairs Meeting to Strengthen Southern Flood Readiness
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul led a meeting with 14 southern provincial governors to boost flood readiness ahead of expected heavy rains. He stressed the need for timely public warnings, well‑equipped evacuation centers, and guaranteed access to food, water, shelter and medical care. Officials also discussed water‑management coordination, pre‑positioning of rescue gear, and transparent use of emergency funds under disaster‑prevention law.
Anutin warned that weather forecasts show a high risk of flooding across many southern provinces from Phetchaburi to Malaysia, lasting through the end of October. He called for clear, easy-to-understand warnings to the public, pre‑positioned evacuation centers especially for the elderly, the sick and bedridden, and assured that the four basic necessities would be provided without fail. The meeting also covered inter‑provincial water management, pre‑positioning of pumps, boats and other equipment, and the use of disaster‑prevention law to allocate emergency funds transparently. Shelters are to meet health standards, with the Public Health Ministry separating patients by condition and the Education Ministry sending vocational students to help repair electrical equipment in shelters.
