PM Wraps New Zealand Visit, Direct Bangkok-Auckland Flights Coming Soon
PM Anutin concluded a tour of New Zealand and Australia on August 22, announcing plans to restore direct Bangkok-Auckland flights and signing strategic partnership agreements covering trade, economics, and investment.
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul concluded his tour on August 22 in Auckland, New Zealand, announcing plans to restore direct airline service between Bangkok and Auckland. His delegation traveled from Sydney to Canberra, Australia, where they visited Thai temples, met with state officials and the prime minister, and signed memoranda of understanding (MOUs) to elevate relations with Australia and New Zealand to a strategic partnership covering trade, economics, culture, technology, and investment, with full utilization of free trade agreements.
On security matters, Anutin confirmed that Thailand's borders with neighboring countries—including those with Cambodia, Laos, and northeastern provinces—remain peaceful with no military clashes. Regarding maritime boundary overlap with Cambodia, the government is applying a "holding" policy to avoid conflict and pursue peaceful coexistence. Regarding instability in Myanmar, the government reaffirmed it does not support armed minority groups or allow them to exploit Thai territory, while working closely with ASEAN to address resulting issues such as drug trafficking, call center gangs, and natural gas management.
Anutin highlighted strong economic indicators to underscore government stability, including nearly 100% growth in Board of Investment applications, 20% export expansion, a stable baht, a strong stock market, and an excellent national credit rating. He praised all Thai nationals abroad—from restaurant owners to chefs—as cultural ambassadors building Thailand's reputation and attracting foreigners. He confirmed the government's full support for Thai communities overseas and asked the public to await good news soon regarding the planned restoration of direct Bangkok-Auckland flights.
