Police Arrest Man for Illegally Streaming World Cup 2026
Police arrested a man in Phitsanulok for illegally streaming the 2026 FIFA World Cup and charging viewers without authorization from the official broadcast rights holder.
Police from the Intellectual Property Division have shut down a young entrepreneur's illegal streaming operation broadcasting the 2026 FIFA World Cup without authorization. On July 14, 2025, officers led by IPOL Commander Tasanaphoomi Charupratya and Deputy Commander Phuwidet Julakasevi, along with representatives from Mono Streaming Company (the authorized broadcast rights holder), obtained a court warrant from the Intellectual Property and International Trade Court and arrested a man identified as Nisit at his residence in Muang District, Phitsanulok. Police seized a mobile phone, bank records, and a computer.
The arrest followed a complaint from Mono Streaming Company representatives that unauthorized persons were illegally distributing World Cup broadcast signals online. Investigators discovered a Facebook account posting advertisements falsely claiming to hold broadcast rights in order to gain credibility before recruiting paid subscribers and directing them to an online platform where they could watch the matches. The group had multiple members actively watching and chatting during games.
After gathering evidence, police obtained a search warrant and made the arrest. The suspect faces charges under the Copyright Act B.E. 2537 (1994) and related laws for distributing World Cup 2026 broadcast signals without authorization from the rights holder and collecting fees from viewers for profit. The case has been handed to investigators for further prosecution.
