Heavy flooding has forced the evacuation of 315 male inmates from Kabinburi District Prison in Prachuap Khiri Khan province, with water levels reaching 1.5 meters. Military vehicles stationed 2 kilometers away cannot access the prison due to the floodwaters, prompting authorities to postpone the evacuation of male inmates to September 28. Deputy Director of the Department of Corrections Yutthana Nakeruangsri said that 30 female inmates and sick prisoners were already transferred to Sakaew Provincial Prison today, leaving 315 male inmates awaiting evacuation.
The department has two contingency plans depending on water levels. If floodwaters recede, eight military trucks carrying 30 inmates each can complete the evacuation in three trips. If water levels remain high, boats will be needed, pending the completion of public rescue operations currently underway. Inside the prison, water levels stand at approximately 1.2 meters due to closed gates, while outside levels reach 1.5 meters. All 315 remaining male inmates have been moved to upper dormitory areas. Officials expect the evacuation to proceed smoothly tomorrow with proper food, water, sanitation, and safety measures in place.
