Prison Seeks Boats to Evacuate 350 Inmates in 1.5-Meter Flood
Kabinburi Prison in Prachuap Buri province is seeking boats to evacuate 350 inmates stranded by 1.5-meter floodwaters from a flash flood that has inundated all 14 subdistricts in the area.
An emergency situation has developed at Kabinburi Prison in Prachuap Buri province, with authorities requesting boats to evacuate 350 inmates and move them about 2 kilometers to vehicles from the Department of Corrections that are standing by. Overland transport is impossible because floodwaters have reached approximately 1.5 meters, and the prison commander is still inside the facility. All inmates are planned to be transferred to Sarakaew Prison, but there is currently a shortage of boats for the operation.
The flooding resulted from a flash flood on Highway 304 through Kabinburi in the early morning hours, forcing residents to urgently move belongings to higher ground. The Kabinburi District officer confirmed that floodwaters have spread across all 14 subdistricts, with the historic Old Market community flooded up to head level. Prachuap Khiri Khan District is also in critical condition, with government offices and fresh markets inundated. Emergency rescue teams are using off-road vehicles to wade through deep water to assist sick people and elderly residents stranded in homes and fields.
