Severe Rain Warning Issued Across Thailand

The Thai Meteorological Department issued Warning No. 7 on September 18, 2025, for heavy to very heavy rainfall nationwide and strong winds in the Andaman Sea from September 18–20. Heavy rain will first affect the northern and northeastern regions, then spread to central, eastern, and upper southern areas on September 18. A high-pressure system and cold air mass from China is moving down over the upper north and upper northeast, pushing the monsoon trough southward across the lower central region, east, and upper south, while the southwest monsoon strengthens over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. Sixty-five provinces are forecast to experience heavy rainfall today. The department warns the public to be alert for dangers from heavy and accumulated rainfall, which may cause flash flooding and flash floods, especially in foothill areas near waterways and low-lying zones. Travel through repeatedly flooded routes, particularly in low-lying areas where water may accumulate suddenly, should be avoided. Andaman Sea waves are expected to be moderately strong at 2–3 metres high, reaching over 3 metres in thunderstorm areas. Boat operators in the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea should navigate carefully and avoid thunderstorm zones. Small boats in the Andaman Sea should remain ashore from September 18–20. The public is urged to plan activities and travel carefully during this period.
