Tragic! A Grade 11 student died after his motorcycle fell into a canal; he was known for good grades and excellent behavior. Authorities ordered internal agencies to provide appropriate assistance. On October 9, 2026, the Lam Phra Pheung Witthayakhom School Facebook page, under the Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Administrative Organization, posted a message expressing deepest condolences for the passing of Aran Katipommarat, a Grade 11/2 student, and offered strength to his family. Reporter contacted Thanakorn Prapprungphong, deputy mayor of Nakhon Ratchasima PAO overseeing the Office of Education, Religion and Culture, who said he received a report from school executives in Tafop, Pak Thong Chai district yesterday evening (October 8) that Pak Thong Chai Police Station had been notified of a motorcycle accident: a Honda bike lost control and fell into the canal running parallel to the road in Tafop, Pak Thong Chai. Volunteers from the Huk 31 Rescue Unit, Pak Thong Chai station, rushed to search the irrigation canal, which had a strong current due to increased water release from Lam Phra Pheung Dam. They found the body of Aran Katipommarat, aged 16, from Bo Pla Thong subdistrict, Pak Thong Chai, Nakhon Ratchasima, floating and caught on a villager's net. Preliminary checks indicated he had been dead for at least four hours, with no external injuries and no evidence at the scene. Initially, the school was on break; Aran had borrowed a friend's motorcycle to run an errand alone, but the braking system was poor, causing the bike to skid into the irrigation canal running alongside the road. Later, locals spotted traces and notified authorities, leading to the discovery of the tragic incident. It was also noted that Aran was an outstanding student who had passed the Dhamma examination at Sanam Luang and consistently participated in school activities. The Nakhon Ratchasima PAO therefore directed internal agencies to carry out suitable assistance.

Thai Health Promotion Foundation Defends Committee Appointment Process

The spokesperson for the Thai Health Promotion Foundation said the appointment of its plan‑management committee follows regulations and is not a self‑appointed process, noting that the Deputy Prime Minister, not the deputy board chair, signed the order. He added that the foundation evaluates its performance every five years and reviews its 10‑year strategy, having undergone two external evaluations that praised its innovative work. The governance structure places the Prime Minister as board chair, with day‑to‑day authority delegated to the Deputy Prime Minister.

Revenue Dept's Outbound Tax Plan Hits Thai Tourism Stocks

Asia Plus says the Revenue Department’s proposal to charge 1,000 baht per outbound flight could dent short‑term confidence in Thai tourism stocks. The fee would add roughly 1,450 baht to the cost of a typical overseas trip, though analysts expect the impact on travel demand and hotel occupancy to be modest. The measure is still under public consultation and would take years to implement, if approved.
