Taiwan has underscored its role as a reliable partner committed to the rule of law, pledging to continue strengthening cooperation and people-to-people ties with Thailand. The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand confirmed that the long-standing friendship and close cooperation between Taiwan and Thailand remains firm and unchanged, as evidenced by Taiwan's recent extension of visa-free entry for Thai travelers by one more year and its ongoing commitment to protecting Thai workers' rights in Taiwan.
Taiwan's representative Peter Luan stated that Taiwanese and Thai people share similar virtues of friendliness, family values, and diligence, and both sides demonstrate flexibility and mutual understanding in maintaining their relationship amid geopolitical challenges. Food culture serves as another bridge between the peoples, with Taiwan's bubble tea gaining widespread popularity in Thailand while Thai cuisine has similarly become beloved in Taiwan as part of daily life. Thai films and series such as The Devil's Deal, The Believers, and Bad Genius, along with global artist Lisa, continue to enjoy popularity in Taiwan. Taiwanese director Ang Lee's films and the timeless classical songs of Teresa Teng remain cherished by Thai audiences, reflecting the deep cultural connection and appeal between the two nations.
Beyond cultural ties, economic and trade cooperation between Taiwan and Thailand has accumulated over more than 60 years with solid foundations and mutual trust. Taiwan is currently Thailand's fourth-largest trading partner and the sixth-largest source of foreign direct investment. Taiwan stands ready to share knowledge and experience based on mutual respect to support Thailand's development into Southeast Asia's semiconductor hub.
Regardless of external circumstances, Taiwan's government remains committed to promoting friendly relations and exchanges with Thailand. Taiwan will continue to fully protect the safety and legal rights of Thai workers in Taiwan and thanks all Thai workers for their significant contributions to Taiwan's economy and development.
