Dutch manager Erik ten Hag has announced he is not interested in taking over the Netherlands national team following the team's recent parting ways with Ronald Koeman. The Netherlands separated from Koeman after their elimination in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Several managers have been mentioned as potential candidates for the Dutch team, including Erik ten Hag, the former Manchester United manager. However, ten Hag, who currently serves as technical director at Twente, has responded to the speculation, saying: "I'm not ready yet, and I remain committed to this step." He continued: "I plan to continue working here for another two years. I like it here, and I want to help the club move forward." CP Urges State to Resolve Airport Land Handover Delays

CP Group is urging the government to resolve land transfer delays and legal constraints blocking the three-airport high-speed rail project, emphasizing it seeks solutions rather than contract termination. The company says construction finan

CP Urges State to Resolve Airport Land Handover Delays
5d ago Khaosod

CP Group is pressing the government to address obstacles and land transfer issues affecting the high-speed rail project connecting three airports, insisting that contract termination is not their primary objective. Srithai Jinasitthikul, CEO of Asia Aero One Company Limited, stated that CP remains committed to advancing this critical national infrastructure project. The main impediment is not the private sector's desire to cancel the contract, but rather multiple unresolved constraints—particularly delays in land handover, which directly impact construction and project financing. The private sector has continuously engaged with the State Railway of Thailand and relevant agencies to resolve land transfer issues, yet certain legal and on-ground limitations cannot be addressed within existing legal frameworks. Many areas, despite being handed over, face restrictions preventing actual construction, such as legal constraints regarding public drainage systems and site conditions requiring multi-agency policy-level intervention. These long-standing problems cannot be resolved by one contracting party alone. Srithai emphasized this is not meant to blame State Railway or any agency, as all parties want the project to proceed. However, upon implementation, constraints have emerged that differ from the original project planning and tender specifications (TOR), requiring joint solutions. Delayed land handover also directly affects project financing, as financial institutions prioritize site readiness and project execution capability. If the site remains unprepared, risk assessment and project fundraising will inevitably suffer. Another factor diverging from TOR and project initiation is passenger volume assumptions for U-Tapao Airport. Originally projecting high growth, current data shows that Suvarnabhumi Airport's capacity expansion has lowered U-Tapao passenger forecasts, significantly impacting the project's financial model—an issue all parties have continuously discussed. The private sector's approach is not contract termination but collaborative efforts with government to overcome obstacles and keep the project moving forward, believing the high-speed rail remains essential for national development. However, should legal, land transfer, or other constraints prove truly irreparable and contract conditions cannot be fulfilled, alternative options per contractual procedures may eventually be considered through mutual discussion—though contract termination is not the primary goal. "What we've consistently pursued is finding solutions together, not ending the project," Srithai stated. "If all parties can resolve these constraints, the project can move forward for the nation's benefit."

AWC is investing over 10 billion baht in a major Chao Phraya riverside development to transform Asia Tique The Riverfront Destination into a world-class attraction. The project will feature the Avatar: Guardians of Eywa immersive experience, the Blue Dome architectural structure from Japan's Osaka Expo 2025, and a cable car system crossing the Chao Phraya River.

According to AWC CEO Wallapa Traisoratana, the company is developing the site under the AWC Lifestyle Destination concept to establish Bangkok as a premier global tourism hub. The investment includes approximately 8 billion baht in direct project development within the Asia Tique area, with an additional 4 billion baht for surrounding development.

The Avatar experience will feature immersive technology combining performance, lighting, color, and sound to create a world-class attraction that aligns with AWC's sustainability values. The Blue Dome, a 16,000-square-meter architectural structure, will serve as an exhibition and lifestyle activity center. The cable car project, budgeted at approximately 2 billion baht, will serve as both transportation and an experiential "museum in the sky" telling stories of Thai culture, history, and sustainability.

The primary target market consists of quality-conscious tourists and families worldwide seeking shared experiences. AWC is currently studying four cable car designs and exploring zip line activities with structures up to 50 meters high. The company is also developing over 20 acres on the Charoenkrung side to create an integrated riverside lifestyle destination.

Martinez Defends World Cup Referees Despite Controversy
5d ago Khaosod

Argentina defender Lisandro Martinez says referees at this World Cup are doing an excellent job, despite ongoing drama surrounding their decisions. World Cup 2026 officials have faced criticism over their performance in multiple matches, particularly Argentina's 3-2 comeback win over Egypt in the Round of 16, which contained numerous controversial moments. Egypt's football association lodged a complaint about VAR usage, most notably the disallowed goal by Mostafa Ziko in the 62nd minute that would have put the African team ahead 2-0. FIFA's head of referees, Pierluigi Collina, came to the officials' defense, denying allegations of bias and asserting that referees are operating independently. Most recently, Martinez commented on the referees' performance, saying: "I think they're doing an excellent job. It's up to you (the media) sometimes to create controversy. We're only interested in performing at our best on the pitch."

One Dead, DJ Injured in Shooting at Merit-Making Party

A man was fatally shot during a pre-ordination party in Ayutthaya when two brothers with whom he'd clashed during Songkran opened fire; a DJ was also injured by a stray bullet.

One Dead, DJ Injured in Shooting at Merit-Making Party
5d ago Khaosod

A man was fatally shot during a pre-ordination merit-making celebration when two groups with an ongoing dispute since Songkran encountered each other at a house in Phra Yaban Lue subdistrict, Lad Bua Luang district, Ayutthaya province, at 3 a.m. on July 11, 2025. Lad Bua Luang Police Station received the report and dispatched officers led by Colonel Prinyaa Thongma to investigate. The scene showed overturned tables and chairs, broken glass scattered across the floor, extensive bloodstains near the house entrance, and bullet holes in windows and walls. Two 9mm bullet casings were collected as evidence.

Two people were injured. The first victim, 36-year-old Piyadom (surname withheld), was shot in the left chest with the bullet exiting the right side. He died at Bang Thai Hospital. The second victim, 27-year-old DJ Supannee (surname withheld), was grazed by a stray bullet on her shoulder and was treated at Sena Hospital.

According to witnesses, the deceased and a friend had traveled from Bang Pa-in to attend the ordination celebration. During the gathering, two brothers with a prior conflict with the victim since Songkran approached and confrontationally asked if the victim still had grievances. When the victim replied he had none but feared no one, one of the brothers threw a bottle before both men drew firearms and opened fire. Everyone fled, the victim was shot down, and the DJ was hit by a stray bullet. The victim was rushed to the hospital but died shortly after.

The victim's friend expressed dismay that such a serious incident escalated to gunfire when a fistfight should have sufficed, especially with only two people involved. The house owner, who had invited both parties, identified the shooters as Thani (age 27) and Wirot (age 33), brothers who were his friends but did not personally know the victim.

According to the house owner, the perpetrators arrived at the party and were drinking when the victim arrived late. During the drinking session, Thani confrontationally asked if the victim still harbored grievances. When the victim responded he had none but feared no one, a bottle was smashed and gunfire erupted. The victim was shot and subsequently died at the hospital.

The house owner revealed that the victim and Thani had previously fought during Songkran while playing in water, resulting in the victim being struck in the head. The two parties later reconciled and the perpetrator apologized to the victim's parents, so the host did not expect lingering resentment. He expressed deep sorrow and shock that such violence occurred during his own ordination preparations.

New Portugal head coach Jorge Jesus has dismissed criticism of Cristiano Ronaldo following the team's World Cup 2026 elimination at the round of 16 stage. Ronaldo faced heavy scrutiny for his performance in what was set to be his final World Cup appearance, with some viewing him as a liability for the Portuguese squad. Jesus, who recently took over as Portugal's head coach through 2023, defended Ronaldo, stating: "Cristiano Ronaldo will never be a problem for the national team or for me. He is a symbol of Portuguese football and the Portuguese national team, and this will be inscribed in history forever. I have been very happy to work with him over the past year. Working with him is easy, as long as you understand where we both can go." Jesus added: "Everything becomes easier after that, but it depends on what I want to do. I know he wants to continue playing at Al Nassr. He told me he wants to end his career there. But as long as I have the opportunity to be selected, I will do what I think is best for the national team."

Merino Credits Preparation, Not Luck, For Back-to-Back Match Winners

Merino Credits Preparation, Not Luck, For Back-to-Back Match Winners
5d ago Khaosod

Spanish midfielder Mikel Merino stressed that his back-to-back match-winning goals came from careful preparation, not chance, after scoring the decisive goal to help Spain beat Belgium 2-1 in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Arsenal's Merino was substituted on in the 86th minute before finding the net in the 88th, securing Spain's advance to the semi-finals. He had previously scored the winning goal against Portugal in the round of 16 clash.

After the match, Merino shared his feelings, saying: "I don't know what to say. I still can't believe it myself."

"Doing it again—I thought it wouldn't happen to me for a long time, and now we've done it again."

"I believe in luck, but I don't think this is luck. It's about being prepared when you step onto the pitch. So you shouldn't be surprised that I scored late in the game because when I came on, I was ready."

"It feels like a dream to come on as a substitute and help the team by scoring two goals in consecutive matches. My teammates kept telling me I'd score again. I wanted to come on and help elevate the team and do whatever I could."

The eastern region, including Chanthaburi and Trat, will have heavy rain in some areas with waves of 2-3 meters, exceeding 3 meters during thunderstorms. Southern Thailand's east coast will see thunderstorms in 30 percent of the area, primarily affecting Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, and Nakhon Si Thammarat provinces. The department warns of potential flash flooding and forest runoff, particularly in foothill and low-lying areas. Wave heights in the Andaman Sea are expected to reach 2-4 meters in the upper region and 2-3 meters in the lower region and upper Gulf of Thailand, with higher waves during thunderstorms. Small boats are advised to avoid sailing until July 15.
