Thai Boxer Weeraphol Knocked Down in Second Round at Asian Games
Thai boxer Weeraphol Jongjorhaw was knocked down in the second round and lost on points to China's Wang Xiaobao at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan on September 23.
Weeraphol Jongjorhaw, grandson of former Olympic gold medalist Somjit Jongjorhaw, failed to advance after being knocked down in the second round before losing on points to a Chinese boxer in the first round of boxing at the 2026 Asian Games. The competition was held at Nishio Gymnasium in Nishio, Japan on September 23, 2026, as part of the 20th Asian Games. Thailand's boxing team competed in two weight classes, with the highlight in the men's 80kg division featuring Weeraphol against Wang Xiaobao from China. In the fight, Weeraphol attempted to control the action but walked into the Chinese boxer's punches before being knocked down with an 8-count in the second round. He continued to fight for the remaining rounds, but judges awarded all five judges' votes to Wang Xiaobao, eliminating Weeraphol in the first round. In the 60kg men's division, Thai boxer Sakkada Rumtham faced MD Salim Hossain from Bangladesh and clearly demonstrated superior technique, winning all five judges' votes to advance to the second round, where he will face Iranian boxer Danial Shabaksh, who defeated Indonesia's Asri Oodin in the first round.
