Thai Chamber Urges Businesses To Plan For Slow Recovery
The Thai Chamber of Commerce warned businesses to prepare for slow recovery after severe flooding disrupted operations across Bangkok and multiple provinces, urging contingency planning and workplace adjustments.
On September 26, Poht Aramwattananont, chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade, issued a statement addressing concerns about business recovery following severe flooding in Bangkok, surrounding provinces, the Eastern Region, and multiple provinces nationwide. The flooding has disrupted travel, transportation, and business operations in affected areas.
The chamber expressed sympathy for those impacted and called on all parties to monitor the situation closely while prioritizing safety. It urged prepared members and business operators to assist affected communities where possible, such as providing safe parking areas or other aid to help mitigate damage and impacts from the flooding.
While conditions are expected to normalize in many areas soon, the chamber warned that recovery for daily life, livelihoods, and business operations—particularly in transportation, logistics, raw materials, and staffing—may take considerable time. It therefore asked members and operators to develop advance contingency plans to resume business quickly and minimize losses.
Businesses were advised to verify the safety and readiness of facilities, machinery, electrical systems, inventory, and supply and transport routes, and to support affected employees by adjusting work schedules and arrangements as needed. The Thai Chamber of Commerce will monitor the situation through provincial chambers, trade associations, and members to collect business concerns and coordinate with relevant agencies to support rapid economic recovery.
