Thai Entertainer Vows to Complete 100-Lap Temple Run

Thailand's women's volleyball team made history by winning the 2026 Asian Championship and securing a spot at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics for the first time. In celebration, entertainer Rasami Kae pledged to run 100 laps around the Emerald Buddha Temple (Grand Palace) as a spiritual vow, totaling over 200 kilometers. The commitment was made spontaneously during a live broadcast after a casual conversation, and Rasami has described the decision-making process and the scale of the undertaking.

Rasami explained that the vow originated during Thailand's Round of 16 match against Kazakhstan. She recounted how the idea escalated through playful banter, eventually landing on 100 laps after calculating that each lap is approximately 2 kilometers. Despite initial uncertainty about whether the volleyball team would advance far enough to justify the vow, Thailand went on to defeat South Korea, Japan, and China, cementing Rasami's commitment.

Rasami is spacing the running over approximately two months, currently having completed six laps with ten laps planned by evening. She has stated firmly that there will be no reduction in the number of laps, no substitutes running in her place, and no shortcuts, as the vow comes from a sincere heart and deep reverence for the sacred temple. She expressed profound pride in the volleyball team's achievement, noting that the Olympics is the ultimate goal for athletes worldwide, and Thailand's women's team has now realized that dream.
