The Meteorological Department issued its third warning on September 8 concerning heavy to very heavy rainfall across Thailand between September 8-13. Rainfall will increase significantly with heavy rain affecting many areas and very heavy rain in some locations, beginning in the Northeast region before spreading to other areas. From September 8-11, a monsoon trough will pass over the North, upper Central, and Northeast regions, combined with a moderate southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand, causing heavy rainfall across upper Thailand with very heavy rain in some areas. From September 12-13, a high-pressure system or cold air mass from China will extend over the upper North and upper Northeast, shifting the monsoon trough southward through the lower Central and Eastern regions toward a strengthening low-pressure system over the central South China Sea. The southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, South, and Gulf of Thailand will intensify, reducing rainfall in the North and Northeast while increasing it in the Central region, Bangkok and surroundings, East, and South with very heavy rain in some areas. The public, particularly in the lower Northeast, Central region including Bangkok and surroundings, East, and upper South, should exercise caution from September 9-11 against dangers from heavy to very heavy rainfall and accumulated precipitation that could cause flash flooding and flash floods in hilly and low-lying areas near waterways. Avoid travel through areas prone to repeated flooding, especially low-lying zones at risk of brief flooding. From September 11-13, a low-pressure system near the Philippines may strengthen into a tropical cyclone and move toward the central South China Sea.
