Newborn Girl Found Abandoned in Grass Near Pathum Thani

A newborn girl has been found abandoned in overgrown grass in Pathum Thani city. A motorist who initially mistook the body for a doll stopped to investigate after noticing flies swarming around it.

On September 7 at 6:30 p.m., Pathum Thani City Police received a report of an infant's body discovered in Pool Sri Soi 8 (west side), Moo 1, Bang Khayang Subdistrict, Pathum Thani. Officers, medical personnel, forensic institute staff, and volunteers from a charitable foundation responded to the dead-end soi, which contained an abandoned water tank surrounded by overgrown vegetation.

The body of a newborn girl with an umbilical cord still attached was found in the grass, already decomposing. Approximately 5 meters away, authorities discovered a placenta near the water tank and collected it as evidence.

Initial autopsy findings indicate the infant died 2-3 days ago and showed signs of possible animal scavenging, with scratches visible on the back. A 51-year-old man named Sunan reported that while driving to pick up his son to go to the market, he decided to turn the car around in the soi. He spotted what he first thought was a discarded doll but, noticing the flies, stopped to investigate with his son. They discovered the deceased infant and immediately called police.

Officer Paknicha Thaomjit stated that investigators will review CCTV footage along entry and exit routes in the Pool Sri Soi area to identify and locate the mother or person responsible for abandoning the infant. The body will be sent to the Forensic Institute under the Ministry of Justice for a detailed autopsy to determine the cause of death.
