Rayong MP Demands Inquiry Into Illegal Rock Blasting
A Rayong MP filed a formal complaint over illegal rock blasting at an industrial construction site in August, demanding authorities investigate why the case stalled despite evidence that a contractor worked without permits.
On September 7, Krit Silpachai, a Pheu Thai MP for Rayong Province, visited Ban Kao Police Station to file a formal report and push for progress on the case following an explosion on August 13. Krit, along with officials from the Rayong Provincial Industry Office, Environmental Office, and district administration, had previously inspected an industrial estate construction site in Nong Lalok Subdistrict where multiple high-pressure blasts were detonated without proper authorization, disturbing local residents. Initial investigations found no permits had been issued for the rock blasting from relevant agencies, yet after that inspection the case went silent with no further developments, prompting Krit to lodge a formal complaint.
"Residents told me the matter just disappeared, so I had to follow up myself," Krit said. "There is clear evidence this was done by a contractor preparing the site for Chinese investors, yet there has been no progress. If government agencies continue to ignore this and let offenders walk free, creating panic among the public, I will not stay quiet. I will escalate this to the National Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate state officials who have neglected their duty."
The August 13 incident had made headlines in Ban Kao District due to loud blasts that alarmed residents before it was revealed to be rock blasting for industrial park development. However, with the case stalled and fears that it may become a forgotten scandal or subject to local influence, the MP felt compelled to demand accountability for Rayong residents.
